Animé, un bar en cuivre de style parisien vous accueille à votre arrivée sur Rose Alley. Le menu du Zuni change tous les jours avec des plats inspirés de recettes traditionnelles italiennes et françaises. This is much hyped place, famous for their chicken and overall high quality food. The good news is that they DO deliver on the high quality food, the wait staff was attentive and efficient, and everything about the place was up to par except for smaller-than-expected portions, and prices that are a bit excessive, especially when considering the portion sizes. $5 for three pieces of bread? $46 for probably 5 ounces of steak? If it wasn't absolutely delicious it would be a rip off, but thankfully the do deliver the goods in that department, so the only down side is your credit card coming due, otherwise the place is pretty amazing.

Overall fantastic. Only issue was the potion size of my duck.It was delicious but one very small leg seemed insufficient for an entree. Would have appreciated a large leg or some added sliced pieces from another part of the bird. With that said, thanks for a very nice evening.

I was so disappointed last night. I have been coming to Zuni since the late 1990’s. And have long held it in the highest of esteem and told folks many times how favorited Zuni is. So now a past tense must be used: “was.” It was my birthday so I expected some things. Our server was completely unengaged and unengaging. Our food and entrees took forever to arrive I am accustomed to the hour for the chicken (the must order menu item) but at the two hour mark I felt a bit slighted. Especially when the couple next to us sat down and 30 minutes later they had their chicken! Meanwhile I was left to bread and French fries for my main. When the chicken finally came the fries were gone, I was full of bread, a bit tipsy for lack of real sustenance and ready to go home. We sat for a 6:00 reservation at 6:45, and got our chicken at 9:57!!! Then the final ouch. The bill without an acknowledgement for the $700 dollars our party of four was about to hand over, to my birthday! We didn’t want dessert having not really eaten. But a token of kindness like a mound of plain vanilla ice cream and a candle stuck in it….would have been a nice touch. Do better Zuni. I can stop loving you.

I ordered the bucatini carbonara because the famous chicken was going to take too long. Big mistake. The bucatini was very, very salty. The dish itself was small but I didn’t really care that much because it was so salty I could not finish it. Normally pasta would be/should be plated in a warm bowl or plate. The plate was cold therefore the dish was cold in minutes. I won’t be back. Sad, because it’s a landmark.

The famous roast chicken at Zuni Cafe lives up to its reputation - juicy, flavorful, and perfectly roasted with crispy skin. The bread salad it comes with soaks up all those delicious drippings. Their Caesar salad was also excellent, with just the right amount of anchovy bite and fresh, crisp romaine. Our friends' burgers were cooked to perfection and got high marks. Unfortunately, the service really dragged down our experience. While they warn you that the chicken takes an hour, ours took closer to 90 minutes - and we ordered it right when we sat down. We were seated upstairs, which lacks the charm and energy of the main dining room, and seemed to be a bit of a forgotten zone. Our drinks sat empty without offers of refills, and getting our check at the end was an exercise in patience. Pro tip: Request a table downstairs in the main dining room if possible. The atmosphere is much better, and you might get more attentive service. If you do come, definitely order the chicken - just be prepared for a very leisurely meal. Side note: Given the long wait for the chicken, it's worth calling ahead to place your order if you know you want it. Your stomach will thank you. Good: Outstanding roast chicken * Excellent Caesar salad * Well-prepared burgers * Historic SF restaurant with character Needs work: Very slow service * Long waits beyond quoted times * Inattentive drink service * Upstairs seating feels like second-tier experience

We never leave town without dining here, a SF gem that locals take for granted. Wonderful food that often transcends the spectacular chicken dish that is their trademark.

The food was average at best and took too long to be served. Menus choices were limited. Noise level was oppressive. Prices were too high considering the quality of the food.

Terrible service. Took well over an hour or longer to get our paella, which was delicious but burnt on the bottom. Waiters never came by to check on us -we had to ask bus boys to find them so we could order wine. They all moved so slowly and had attitude. Perhaps it’s the new shared tipping?
