Construit en 1840, cette ancienne résidence de plantation Cape May est aujourd'hui le célèbre Washington Inn and Wine Bar. La famille Craig a soigneusement préservé la beauté et l'essence de ce trésor si particulier sans apporter d'importantes modifications au lieu original. La façade acceuillante surplombe la Washington Street bordée d'arbres dans le quartier du littoral Historic District. Le Washington Inn propose six salles à manger uniques, d' un patio aux tables près de la cheminée. Les cocktails sont un must au Wine Bar, où la scène Cape May peut être encore plus appréciée. Dinner at the Washington Inn last night was fabulous. From the moment we walked in the door, we knew it was going to be a special place. It started at the bar with a very skilled mixologist who prepared our awesome cocktails and continued to our appetizers and meals. We had oysters and clam chowder for apps and the Seafood Ciopinno and fish special for dinner. Everything was fantastic and topped off with great wine and service. A must visit when in Cape May.

This has become our “big dinner” spot when we come to Cape May each year, and this year’s visit was no disappointment. My wife enjoyed her usual shrimp cocktail, and I tried the foie gras, which was delicious—though I dare say the semolina cake managed to outshine the pâté. For our entrees, my wife once again went with her usual, the short rib, which was once again cooked perfectly. I had the gnocchi, and it was perhaps my favorite thing I’ve had in our three visits. Marvelous depth of flavor in the sauce, and the intermixed pasta, mushrooms, and scallops were outstanding. I hope they still have this dish (or some variant of it) when we return. After trying the crème brûlée last year, I had to have it again this time, and my wife decided to join me. It’s still the best brûlée I’ve had, and my wife proclaimed it her favorite Washington Inn dessert. Another breathtaking meal—can’t wait till next time!

Bar area was very charming with great drinks and bartenders. Service and food were exceptional in the restaurant. Highly recommend!

Enjoyed our first time having dinner at the Washington Inn. We were welcomed and escorted to our table which I didn't love as we were early and I would have preferred if the hostess gave us an option of seating. This location put in the main thoroughfare from the kitchen to every other table in the restaurant so there was a non stop flow of waiters delivering dinner to all the other patrons. Distract to say the least, and interrupted our conversation multiple times. We had a very pleasant and competent waiter, but frankly one that showed little warmth, so our interactions with them were perfunctory, though again very competent. The menu was diverse offering 5 seafood options, which is two more than most , and thankfully didn't include the standard fare of salmon and Branzino, believe this is a plus. The rest of the menu selections were eclectic enough to give everyone some real choice. We both enjoyed our appetizers and our entrees which I would say were tasteful and filling and good to very good overall but should have been closer to excellent considering the cost. Cocktails were good and choices plentiful as was the wine list. So overall this was a very good experience but an expensive one given all things considered. We will come again but it won't be an every month occurrence.
