I came with a group of friends for a booked reservation at 8:45pm. It still had availability all the way until 9:45pm. I don’t remember why I decided to look on yelp when we arrived to the location but I did and it said that the restaurant was closing in 15mins (9pm). I was a bit confused about that since there were many options to choose for reservation here on OpenTable way after 9pm. Regardless, they sat us down without mentioning anything so, I figured that the hours were wrong on yelp. Right away, we noticed that the restaurant didn’t look like how it’s portrayed on OpenTable. Images on here are beautiful. They definitely hired an amazing photographer. However, the vibe at the restaurant isn’t the same… not sure how to describe it… it just felt like all the elements that could’ve made the place cool were just placed randomly. Everything just felt dungy and too spread out. Waiters were friendly and attentive at the start. They checked in on us a lot. We did the usual, we order our drinks before looking at the menu for our mains, still no mention of the hours. Bar service was on point, very quick. They have a drink that’s spicy and it was actually really spicy (my fiancé loved it) Looking through the menu, we noticed that they include a obligatory 20% tip in our bill. When ordering our food it was around 9pm, they mentioned that the kitchen is about to close. We were taken a back and when our waiter noticed our reaction he said “actually our kitchen closes at 9:30”. We ordered all of our mains and one appetizer. He didn’t write anything down. They forgot our appetizer and the mains took a really long time so, we were starving by the time the food came out. It was around 9:45 when we finally got our food. I gave an extra star because the food and drinks are actually good. Just didn’t appreciate that they didn’t give us autonomy: to reserve on OT you put your card down, if no show or cancellation, they charge. There’s the included 20% tip charge.

Very disappointing, as soon as we sat down for our 8pm reservation we were told the kitchen was closing at 8:45. We should have left at that point since there was only one other table occupied on a Saturday evening. We were only brought 2 menus for 4 people even after asking for more. The restaurant only had sprite and soda water to drink. The waiter forgot my husband’s drink and we asked him to write down our orders since he seemed to be struggling, he did not and we received one wrong entree but we did not complain. As soon as our entrees were sat down on top of empty appetizers plates and a menu that was not cleared we were told the kitchen was closing in 5 minutes if we wanted dessert. We said no and the waiter asked if he could close us out, we agreed and were immediately brought the bill. Staff seemed more interested in closing than filling water and had to flag someone down who emerged from the back. The last straw was when they started breaking down the dining area, I thought they were about to begin mopping so we finally said something and asked why they offer 8pm reservations when you are closing 45 minutes later. It was very uncomfortable and sad because the food is pretty good. We walked out at 9:05 as we felt so rushed. The restaurant adds a 20% service charge automatically, I suppose to cover for the lack of service provided.

Lamb was overcooked and chicken was raw. Stinks because the flavor was incredible. Still I can’t recommend this place.

My wife and I went there for their Indochinese menu. The chili chicken, fried rice and Hakka noodles were amazing. The pani puri margarita and mango mint mojito were great. Certainly one the best Indochinese in Chicagoland.

A friend recommended vermilion so we stop by to check it out. It did not disappoint. Great drinks like the Bollywood a vodka infuse Serrano drink that was OMG. The Hakka master piece paneer for my main was just outstanding, will come back again to try some other stuff with friends.

We stop by for happy hour at vermilion after looking at the menu we decided to stay. We made a good decision because the food was delightful, specially the steak.

We had dinner at vermilion, I was super happy going there. We had a mango mint mojito and the Lake Michigan. They were amazing refreshing drinks. For appetizers we had kale bhel and tamarind shrimp just unique flavors that went perfect together for dinner. I had Mary had a little and wife had the lobster Portuguese that coconut goan gravy was super good.
