Honestly, I was underwhelmed with Union Rooftop. Prior to visiting, through my reservation I understood I was paying a premium to have a “rooftop” experience. However, this was met with not only a chilly dining experience, with many of my friends leaving their coats on throughout our meal, but also sub-par… well everything. Other than the cocktails, which were definitely delicious, the food lacks when paying the price that it is. I ordered the lobster mac & cheese, and was met with corkscrew cheesy noodles and 2 visible pieces of lobster. While I didn’t expect my dish to be loaded with lobster, I did think for $35 I would be able to actually see more than just 2 chunks in my bowl. My partner ordered the steak frites which were cooked perfect to their request, however the plate consisted of mostly french fries which were average and a quarter of the plate consisting of 3 to 3 1/2 pieces of steak. Again, for the price I was expecting a little more. Additionally, the service was extremely underwhelming. Our waiter never checked in to see how everything tasted and we experienced multiple mix ups in what was brought out, and had to wait for the correct dish to appear again. Lastly, Unions website states that a gratuity charge of 20% will be added to the bill for parties of 8 or more; including myself there was 7 people, yet our bill still had the 20% gratuity charge. While I did enjoy my experience due to the people I was with, I would definitely say there are different restaurants with similar experiences as far as atmosphere go, but provide better service, better food, and better value for the premium price you pay.
