We went to Union League Cafe on the Friday night of the Yale Family Weekend so the menu was pre fixe. I can truly say I would order everything I ordered that evening.

Our party of 7 thoroughly enjoyed our experience at the Union League Cafe. The beautiful setting, excellent food, and superior waitstaff combined for a special occasion.

I had the pleasure of dining here last night, which I have frequented for over 20 years. However, this time I opted for the chef’s tasting menu for the first time, and it exceeded all my expectations. The two appetizers were beautifully presented, with exquisite flavors that set the tone for the meal. The entrées were even more impressive, showcasing the chef’s remarkable skill and attention to detail. To top it off, the two desserts were simply sublime, perfectly capping an unforgettable culinary experience. The restaurant’s impeccable service, as always, was a standout. The staff’s warmth and professionalism never fail to impress. A special mention goes to the wine expert, whose knowledge of French wines was exceptional. The wine selections perfectly complemented our dishes, enhancing the overall dining experience. I cannot recommend the tasting menu enough (but they said they only serve this special menu on Tue/Wed/Thu not during the weekend), and I will undoubtedly return with my family to share this magical experience. While this visit was for a business meeting, it only reinforced why Union League remains the best in town. If you’re seeking an authentic French cuisine experience, this is the place to go. Also, if you are planning to have tasting menu, you should reserve it before you go (a day before) - though we did not do so last night, but we were lucky and the chef kindly offered it last night!!

We were very pleased with our dinner. Our selections included the grilled pulpo and the gazpacho appetizers ; the duck and the striped bass boullabaisse entrées and a side of mushrooms. For dessert we had the pavlova and the gran marnier souffle. Each of our choices was excellent. The balance of ingredients and flavors for each dish was right on as was preparation and presentation. Serving size was ample and our wine and beer choices were fine. Our server was a neophyte but did a fine job, was pleasant and attentive. The size of the dining room did not permit a cozy experience but the maître d' was accomodating when we asked for a table off to the side. Overall, we look forward to returning in the future.

The food was excellent; the staff is very--almost overly--attentive (water glasses might not need to be topped off so often). The server very thoughtfully brought a special lamp when he saw us struggling a bit to read the menus. My only reservation is the noise level, which is quite high when the room is full, as it was. But really, this remains the star restaurant in New Haven.

Such a special place for special occasions. The staff is very attentive and friendly in a professional way. This is the kind of place where if you get up to use the restroom, you find your napkin refolded on your return. The food is fantastic and beautifully presented. The noise level is moderate, and given that the restaurant was full when we were there, we could still carry on a conversation without shouting to each other (no loud music drowning out the place). And the rooms are so full of history. There was a wonderful gentleman there that came over to tell us some of the history when we asked our waitress about it.

Spent a charming evening for a family celebration. Staff was professional and attentive. Our bartender was particularly good and talented in his craft. The meal was superb from the oysters and mussels to the duck and lobster. Save room for the soufflé.
