The world famous Walnut Room has been a Chicago tradition since 1907. Located on the 7th floor of Macy's on State Street, the Walnut Room was the first restaurant ever opened in a department store. Conveniently located in the heart of the Chicago theater district, the Walnut Room is an excellent choice to take a break from shopping or for a meal and a glass of wine before the show.
Enjoy our Famous Mrs. Herring's Chicken Pot Pie and other well known favorites on the menu.

Have been coming to the walnut room for years! In fact, this was our 27th visit and we had the most wonderful time & our server, Lori, really made the experience special. She was kind and went above and beyond so we could have a good time. It’s people like her that make coming back year after year worth it. I hope Lori sees this! Thank you!!

Had a marvelous time. Lori, our server, was phenomenal. My mom and I try to meet in Chicago and visit the Walnut room each year, and this was our best experience (service-wise) in years. Food and drinks were great as always, but Lori really made our experience wonderful. We also had a great view of the tree this year - a special tradition I continue to cherish!

Victor was a great server! Only issue was 11 am resy when it opened at that time and there was a huge line so we didn’t get to sit very close to the tree. But Victor made up for that. The princesses with their fairy dust and wishes is always a treat as are the commemerative glasses

Booked reservation for 6:30 pm - then saw on app they were closing at 7 pm. So we were concerned but restaurant said that that time is when they quit taking reservations?

I haven’t been to the Walnut Room in a long time. I was mostly going for the Christmas decorations but was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and the food prep. My last experience with the food quality there was not great, which is why I haven’t been for a long time. We were also heading to the theater and our server was tremendous in getting our order in and to us very quickly so that we could get to the show on time. I will definitely go again around the holidays in future years!

We had a fabulous time as always. Wasn’t a big fan of the open table only reservations but we were able to get in the day we wanted so it was all good!’

We enjoyed our time at Walnut room. Food was good. Disappointed to see a different chicken salad than last year, but it was still good. Server was attentive and hosts went out of their way to sit us by the tree, which was really appreciated. We had a wonderful time.

Wonderful food, wonderful Christmas experience. Great place to take your friends and family. Very reasonable prices. Really good drinks and desserts.
