The world famous Walnut Room has been a Chicago tradition since 1907. Located on the 7th floor of Macy's on State Street, the Walnut Room was the first restaurant ever opened in a department store. Conveniently located in the heart of the Chicago theater district, the Walnut Room is an excellent choice to take a break from shopping or for a meal and a glass of wine before the show.
Enjoy our Famous Mrs. Herring's Chicken Pot Pie and other well known favorites on the menu.

    It was our first time at The Walnut Room. We specifically went for the holiday atmosphere with our 4 yr old. We got there 15 min. early and they seated us right away. Our first table was very far away from the ambiance in a dark part of the restaurant that was very cold. We asked to be closer to the tree and the woman seating us, Kelly, was so kind about ir. She checked and said they had a table closer to the tree but toward the bar. We checked it out, and it wasn’t ready to be sat and was in a corner all by itself. We waited a bit and then Kelly came back and said follow me I have a closer one. We then traveled to a table right next to the staff entry way. My husband had walked to the host stand during all our traveling from table to table and asked why we couldn’t be sat at one of the tables right by the tree, in a warm room, not in the dark, in a corner, or by an entry way. The hostess responded those tables are reserved. People had made a reservation. So he replied, as did we. Everyone here has to have a reservation. She didn’t like that response but did seat us at one of the open tables (there were more than 5 tables open in the main room). The photographer nor the fairy came to our table while we dined. We asked our server about this as we were paying and she sent them both other. The photographer was very kind and was able to take our picture and edit it immediately since we were about to leave. No one mentioned a free souvenir postcard so that was a nice surprise. We just felt there was a big disconnect with the service upon walking in. Luckily our son didn’t pick up on anything and it was still a magical experience for him.

    The food was great!! Delicious! We waited for our server about 15 to 20 minutes before saying anything to us and the bathroom was a mess. The bathroom is a huge part of a restaurant experience for a person that drinks a lot of water and has over an hour drive home. My alcoholic beverage was good and I felt the holiday theme. Loved our pictures in front of the tree!

    Excellent service and great start to our holidays! Have been going to this experience for years and feel that Macy’s staff really excelled this year with their service and attitude. Great experience from beginning to end!!

    Had a wonderful time. Food was good and affordable. Enjoyed watching the children. Everyone was very nice!
