The world famous Walnut Room has been a Chicago tradition since 1907. Located on the 7th floor of Macy's on State Street, the Walnut Room was the first restaurant ever opened in a department store. Conveniently located in the heart of the Chicago theater district, the Walnut Room is an excellent choice to take a break from shopping or for a meal and a glass of wine before the show.
Enjoy our Famous Mrs. Herring's Chicken Pot Pie and other well known favorites on the menu.

    Merry Christmas lunch tradition at the Walnut Room. Prior to Macy’s it was Marshall Fields. Seemed to have better food quality in previous years. This has been a Holiday season tradition since I was a child when they still decorated the windows for Christmas!! Would have liked to see the 117 years on the souvenir Holiday mug. The 115 year anniversary (two years ago) is printed on the mug, and this year was missing the 117 years, very disappointing to say the least. Won’t purchase them in the future, if they no longer Print the years (117) on the keepsake mug.

    We had a fun Holiday experience! Food was good and ambience was fun and cheerful. Our server, Daniel, was very attentive and even went out of his way to take photos for us in front of the Christmas Tree.

    Our annual trip to The Walnut Room was absolutely wonderful. The staff couldn’t have been more kind and accommodating. I was with a large party and everthing went smooth and moved along nicely. Everyone was happy with their food, drink, and service. Thank you Walnut Room!

    Walnut Room Holiday Brunch was fantastic. Of course the Christmas decorations are amazing. Service was very good. The wait staff professional and accommodating. The brunch lines were not long and food fresh. They served the typical breakfast foods with pastries and fresh fruit. All very good. There were complimentary photos with option to purchase others. I have to say photographer Ronit Bezalel did an amazing job capturing my husband and me. I expected the traditional stand in front of the tree type photo, but Ronit was much more creative. Don’t pass this up if offered. A great holiday breakfast. Cheers!

    Just lackluster overall. Lukewarm food, inattentive server, couldn’t get a fairy to stop by table even after we asked our server. My girls had to flag one over. Photographer wasn’t going to give me my change, I had to ask for it. Only received one of our keepsake mugs. My girls look forward to this and it was disappointing.

    We had a really disappointing experience. 45 minutes after ordering we had a waiter tell us our order was never put in (and when we first sat down we ordered everything as we have two kids under 2 years old). We left with getting our kids order and my husband and I never got our food. Really upsetting and sad Holiday dinner when it was supposed to be a very special night with our kids.
