The world famous Walnut Room has been a Chicago tradition since 1907. Located on the 7th floor of Macy's on State Street, the Walnut Room was the first restaurant ever opened in a department store. Conveniently located in the heart of the Chicago theater district, the Walnut Room is an excellent choice to take a break from shopping or for a meal and a glass of wine before the show.
Enjoy our Famous Mrs. Herring's Chicken Pot Pie and other well known favorites on the menu.

I haven’t been to the Walnut Room in a long time. I was mostly going for the Christmas decorations but was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and the food prep. My last experience with the food quality there was not great, which is why I haven’t been for a long time. We were also heading to the theater and our server was tremendous in getting our order in and to us very quickly so that we could get to the show on time. I will definitely go again around the holidays in future years!

We had a fabulous time as always. Wasn’t a big fan of the open table only reservations but we were able to get in the day we wanted so it was all good!’

Wonderful food, wonderful Christmas experience. Great place to take your friends and family. Very reasonable prices. Really good drinks and desserts.

Had a late afternoon lunch with my life long friend. We truly enjoyed ourselves. The decor caught my eye immediately. So beautiful and festive. Very little wait time. Greeter was nice and friendly. My request to sit near the Christmas tree was granted. The Fairy Princesses were a nice touch. Food, dessert and drinks were very good. Everything was served in a timely manner. Presentation was lovely. Felt pressured by the photographer, that's the ONLY negative comment. Looking forward to coming back next month with my Ladies group.!

Our waiter Jose was incredible. He went above and beyond. We had such an incredible experience and will recommend it to all friends and family.

Wonderful Christmas ambience. Circulating fairies were so special for the little ones. Tree and decorations so festive. Will keep going back for a Christmas tradition.

Liz was our server and she was just excellent! We had some young children with us and she was just so helpful and accommodating! Food was great, Christmas decorations as well as the fairy princesses added a special touch. Thanks for helping us creat a precious family memory.

I took my two and four-year-old boys to the Walnut room, which I was dreading, but the staff made it so easy for me! They were helpful with the kids and have a great system down when it comes to family dining. The food was great, and the boys loved the fairy princesses. I had an espresso martini which was really good and a couple of the lobster bisque which I really enjoyed. We will be sure to do this every season. Thank you for a great experience!
