The world famous Walnut Room has been a Chicago tradition since 1907. Located on the 7th floor of Macy's on State Street, the Walnut Room was the first restaurant ever opened in a department store. Conveniently located in the heart of the Chicago theater district, the Walnut Room is an excellent choice to take a break from shopping or for a meal and a glass of wine before the show.
Enjoy our Famous Mrs. Herring's Chicken Pot Pie and other well known favorites on the menu.

    We had reservations for 5PM and were seated right away. My son was so excited because they sat us right in front besides the huge Xmas tree. I ordered the Chicken Pot Pie and my husband ordered the meatloaf. My kids ordered the kids chicken pot pie. Everything was delicious. We didnt wait long for our food. My only complaint would be the service. Our server got our drink order wrong, took forever to check on our table, never brought us the cups of water we asked for until the very end-and took forever to come and collect the money to pay the bill. I’m not sure if it’s just this server or cause they were busy or bad service in general cause it was out first time being there. But the ambience, the food and the value you get for the food is amazing and afterwards or before you can shop at the huge and wonderful levels Macy’s has. A good experience overall-would have been Great with good service.

    It it's always wonderful at this time of the year. It's very busy during the Holidays. Great experience for kids. Great ambiance. We love coming here for the Holidays.

    It was a great experience sitting down with our family with a beautiful view of the Great Tree. The food and drinks are very good, and I feel that it is good value for your money. The desserts are delicious. We were not rushed. Overall a great tradition to have with family and friends.

    Very happy to have secured a reservation after a visit to Santaland. Initially we had a table next to the kitchen (where they used to set up the buffet) and thankfully, we were able to move to the room just beyond the tree. We ended up being somewhat hidden and although our server was very nice and apologetic, service was slower than we’ve had in the past (e.g. we had to ask multiple times for water). We made the most of it but definitely felt like a longer visit than normal.

    Great experience! The tree was beautiful and the food was delicious. The service was great and the staff were very friendly and accommodating.

    Finally i got chance to make this reservation.It was fully booked for holidays.Our family really enjoyed atmosphere, amazing service and delicious food.Definitely recommended

    Took my two grandsons to the Walnut Room. 7 year old loved it so much he asked if we could live there! The food was great. Build a snowman ice cream was darling. And our waitress asked if we wanted our photo taken near the tree. Nice of her to ask, and yes, we did.

    It’s a holiday tradition and for a good reason. Always festive and beautiful. The desserts are delicious and fun. Each year the tree is delightful as are the fairies, who give everyone a chance to make holiday wishes, replete with wishing stones and fairy dust. The photographers take great photos too! A wonderful experience.
