The world famous Walnut Room has been a Chicago tradition since 1907. Located on the 7th floor of Macy's on State Street, the Walnut Room was the first restaurant ever opened in a department store. Conveniently located in the heart of the Chicago theater district, the Walnut Room is an excellent choice to take a break from shopping or for a meal and a glass of wine before the show.
Enjoy our Famous Mrs. Herring's Chicken Pot Pie and other well known favorites on the menu.

Such a wonderful holiday tradition going to The Walnut Room at the holidays. Our waitress, Diamond, was phenomenal. Food was good. Holiday atmosphere warms the soul!

What a wonderful experience. We were able to book a table the day before. We sat right under the tree. It was great. Our server Jovi was also amazing and attended to our every need. Will try to go back again every year.

This was our annual Christmas tradition. The ambience is second to none. The service was amazing! The food was quite tasty. Walnut room, you did not disappoint. Until next year.

Lex was great! Very knowledgeable and didn’t forget anything we requested. I gave 4 stars for food only bc a member of our party is dairy free and the venue had very limited offerings for her. I would encourage the venue to create more dairy free options for adults.

We ordered the Pot Pie, the Burger, Crusted Chicken, carrot cake & double chocolate cake. Everything was delicious! Jessica was our server, she was very pleasant and attendentive with refills. The scheduling staff was kind and accommodating. Susie the Fairy had a charming manner which appealed to the younger guests. It was a wonderful holiday memory!

The service started out very slow, which was surprising considering how many staff were there. Our server came by about 5 minutes after we were seated. Once she came by, it was smooth from there, though. Food was fantastic, the burger and pot pie were a little small considering the price but tasted really good. No complaints there! We were seated far away from the tree unfortunately and it was really hard to get a photo because so many others were equally invested in the same activity. Still, we were enchanted by the beautiful interior of the restaurant itself. The exterior views are also really pretty of the high rises. Will definitely be back.

Everything was smooth and excellent throughout our visit to The Walnut Room with the 2024 Christmas Tree. The hostess staff was particularly outstanding in adjusting our table and helping to ensure that we were able to be seated at a perfect table under the Tree. The entire experience was great and helped to make sure our trip to Chicago was filled with great experiences! Thank you!
