The world famous Walnut Room has been a Chicago tradition since 1907. Located on the 7th floor of Macy's on State Street, the Walnut Room was the first restaurant ever opened in a department store. Conveniently located in the heart of the Chicago theater district, the Walnut Room is an excellent choice to take a break from shopping or for a meal and a glass of wine before the show.
Enjoy our Famous Mrs. Herring's Chicken Pot Pie and other well known favorites on the menu.

    Great food as far as what we were able to order. Strange that a whole Franco cheesecake can be bought but yet out of slices after dinner. Also out of choice of beer.

    My waiter, Lex, was fantastic. Gave great recommendations and was very attentive. All of the hostesses were fun and friendly too. They were very obviously engaging with kids and their families so they had fun.

    Noise from the table next to us was obnoxious. These were adults acting like children. There were a number of children who are behaving quite well and a nursing facility for elder care where the residents were behaving well and enjoying themselves immensely. The room was very warm. The staff was very busy, and even though there were a multitude of staff, it seemed that they were understaffed. The food was all brought at once, but the quality of the food was quite good and it was quickly prepared and delivered.

    Our waitress Nyla was awesome! It was my mom’s first time there and Nyla made sure we had a great time. The food was so good! I even looked up the recipes to make them at home! It truly is a Chicago tradition.

    Beautiful room for a Christmas tradition. Food was delicious and service was great. Didn’t feel rushed but wasn’t too slow either.

    The wait for our food was super long. I think our server forgot to put in our order. She didn’t even check back to see if I wanted another drink or two while waiting over an hour for my order. Another drink or two would have kept me happy.

    Lunch in December was excellent and the Walnut Room didn’t miss providing a Christmas vibe! Definitely set us in the mood for the holidays.

    This has been an annual tradition for us for the last 4 or 5 years. Being in the Walnut Room truly helps get everyone in the Christmas spirit. We had our favorites for lunch and the food was comforting and tasty. Our server was attentive and sweet, even though she was serving a large number of tables! Thank you for keep this Christmas tradition alive. The tree centerpiece was stunning as usual! 🎄
