The world famous Walnut Room has been a Chicago tradition since 1907. Located on the 7th floor of Macy's on State Street, the Walnut Room was the first restaurant ever opened in a department store. Conveniently located in the heart of the Chicago theater district, the Walnut Room is an excellent choice to take a break from shopping or for a meal and a glass of wine before the show.
Enjoy our Famous Mrs. Herring's Chicken Pot Pie and other well known favorites on the menu.

    We go to The Walnut Room every year now since I have a kid. The service was great. They were so kind. We get the photos every time they take our pictures but the tree.

    They really need to get the kinks worked out for holiday season. I’d asked in the reservation for a table near the tree. When we arrived (a little early), they were able to seat us, but it was nowhere near the tree despite there being several open tables near it. It was also freezing cold and I ended up putting on a newly purchased sweater to be more comfortable. Our server was very nice, but overwhelmed. She forgot to deliver waters, my entree was cold and had to be sent back to the kitchen and she forgot to put in my drink order with the bar. The table next to us overheard about the cold food and mentioned their’s was the same. In general, things took a long time. Staff was all incredibly welcoming and kind, but maybe just lacking in experience. I also was really sad to miss the ambience of sitting by the tree when it very obviously could have been accommodated. In years past, visiting the Walnut Room for the holiday season has always been a beloved tradition, but this time it was just lacking in so many ways.

    This was our second year in a row enjoying brunch at the start of the holiday season. Our server was great and attentive during the entire meal.

    The tree and decorations are beautiful. But the food wasn't. My crescent with chicken salad was hard as a rock. The meat loaf was cold. Couldn't get a refill on the water. Very disappointing for such a nice setting it should have been.

    Walnut Room keeps recreating itself each year without losing tradition. Love the meatloaf, ambience and holiday vibe.

    We really enjoyed the special turkey dinner and all the sides. Our server was so sweet and we got sprinkled with Fairy Dust. A lovely holiday meal. We come every year.
