The food at the restaurant is extraordinary. Everything is utterly delicious. The service is seamless, and the staff are friendly but not over the top. It's not cheap - but you've looked at the menu online and you know it's not cheap. However, I felt it was a reasonable price for the standard of food received. We had a lovely evening and didn't feel rushed or intimidated.

Very nice food for a birthday treat. Waitress service very good. Head waitress barked at one of the make waiting staff in front of guests. A bit expensive!

I met with my friend at 12pm at the restaurant. We had both travelled, my friend from Cambridge and myself from Leeds, to see each other after many years. On first impressions, the restaurant was very quiet and it smelt strongly of cleaning solutions. We were taken to our table and given some menus. There seemed to be a lot of work shadowing going on that day so service seemed ok but when I asked about the wine, our server Lumi explained that although I wanted a dry rose wine, to ignore the colour as that isn’t to do with how dry the wine was. She was quite a dominant character and seemed to be training a very nice geordie gentlemen who sadly wasn’t wearing a name badge as he was lovely throughout. Next, our order. I asked that we were looking to see if we could do something a bit different with our order. Lumi (before I even asked) said she couldn’t do any mix and match and so we couldn’t have the risotto off the specials menu unless we were ordering two courses. Ok if that’s your policy I get it but there is maybe a grey area for movement or perhaps a way of delivering a message less strongly. I felt like the calm approach of the other waiters and waitresses would have been good for Lumi to learn, not the other way round. So overall.. the food was ok but we struggle as there isn’t really a “lunch” menu. The fish dishes were £28 and seemed quite heavy for a midday lunch and then if you didn’t have two courses, there was a fish finger butty which I had, but the batter was very greasy, and another option. My friend ended up having cauliflower and chips as a lunch so it is limited. A few salads would be ideal for this time of year and of course, a risotto option even as a starter or main would be lovely.. especially when the table next to us had it. I enjoyed it much more when I was there last year. Perhaps if the tables had been mopped up from the rain, people would have sat outside too but that didn’t look like an option. So a disappointing, 6/10 from us.

Definitely one of the better places to eat in Yorkshire, Fresh, clever & quality food. These qualities are difficult to find, when picking somewhere to dine. I have always found something is slightly missing on all of my visits to The Star Inn the City, I can’t quite put my finger on it. Maybe it’s just me & I am being too picky. Although maybe some of the dishes are slightly over priced, On the other hand maybe you know better than I do on this matter 🤔 Thank you very much, we had a lovely evening & will definitely return.

Been a few years since we had been to the Star in the City and the experience was really good, the service exceptional, food - as good as it gets relatively speaking and would highly recommend. We are vegetarian mostly and there were some tasty choices available, wonderfully cooked and presented. Overall a brilliant experience for my other half surprise birthday treat. Thank you so much guys!

Food was perfectly acceptable but I had anticipated something more ‘special’ for the money. The pictures on the Guide Michelin look quite different to what we got. The traditional fish and chips with curry sauce lacked flavour and didn’t come with salt and vinegar potato scraps as advertised. The steak was good but we had had better for less than the 37 pounds charged. Service was great but after going to Skosh the night before I was rather underwhelmed and didn’t find it good value.

This was a very good experience, first time we have visited the star.staff were very professional, polite,and very helpful.food was very very good,great value not to expensive. Will definitely return to the star on our next visit.recommend to anybody who want a calm and relaxing meal.
