    We have two wonderful spaces that can accommodate large group bookings. The River Room can seat up from 14 up to 26 guests and our Private Dining Room can seat up to 34 guests.     This was a return outing to The Star in the City and, as ever, we were very happy with the whole experience. The food, wine and service were all superb. We would highly recommend this restaurant, and we will definitely be returning.

    Really pleasant restaurant, we were sat outside (and not blaming the restaurant for this ‘summer’), but every effort was made to make the best of it and it’s a nice spot by the river to enjoy the evening. Holds true to the Yorkshire menu, with pleasant little twists, and some vegetarian options plus enough choices across the menu to be able to come back again soon. Service was friendly and attentive, but never intrusive. Recommended.

    Lumi our server was professional, friendly, helpful and informative about the menu choices. The food, all 3 courses for both of us, were delicious. In particular the scallops starter. A lovely restaurant with a riverside location and good ambience (background music would have been the only slight addition). Our experience here made our weekend getaway to York really special. Thank you.

    I had high hopes with the Michelin recommendation but very disappointing. Lovely but inefficient staff. Dirty (outdoor) table. Weird food combinations eg blue cheese and pickled walnuts with scallops, which didn’t work. The smallest piece of monkfish I’ve ever seen (imagine you roasted your finger, that’s the bone to flesh ratio) accompanied by two stalks of broccoli (undetectable anchovy) & two onion rings £26. When I sent back the monkfish it returned with a dessert spoon amount of fish off the bone. I’m not exaggerating this. Lamb slightly better but similarly tiny. Can’t see anything vaguely Michelin about this place.

    Excellent food, Staff brilliant, lovely situation, slightly noisy, would prefer all seating / tables to be individual not 50% bench seating

    Although I live in York I had never been here before and don’t know why. Met with friends for a birthday lunch and we were all very impressed with the food choice, quality of the food and fabulous service from our host “Jade”. Will return!
