Le Sovereign est un bar-bistrot belge mettant l'accent sur la cuisine rustique et la célèbre culture belge de la brasserie. Situé dans le dynamique quartier de Georgetown, la cuisine du Sovereign est managée par le chef Peter Smith, dont les plats belges classiques s'inspirent des recettes et traditions françaises, allemandes et néerlandaises. Renouvelé à chaque saison, le menu comprend notamment des plats de moules de style hollandais, une tarte flambée traditionnelle (galette croustillante), du ragoût de lapin Smith cuit à l'étouffée avec de la bière Kriek, ainsi que d'autres plats régionaux classiques. Le Sovereign dispose de 50 bières à la pression et de plus de 350 bouteilles méticuleusement conservées par Greg Engert, en charge de la bière. Des producteurs belges classiques aux brasseurs revivalistes, en passant par les producteurs domestiques de bières ales de style belge, le Sovereign propose une sélection variée reflétant parfaitement la saveur et le savoir-faire en matière de brassage de bières belges.

If you want a vibe like a speakeasy, this is for you! We loved everything -- the drinks, foods, waiter. Mike D was the best. He's like a toned down Chris Farley! Highly recommend the flatbreads and the croquettes. Expansive German beer list and cocktails.

One of the best restaurants in Washington DC. No wonder you need to make reservation week or two in advance. We had mussels, chicken, flatbread. All delicious! Manager Teddy was very accommodating.

The food and service were great. We got the mussels and were pleased at the authentic taste. Just note that the bar and dining area are next to each other so it was very loud and difficult to hear our conversation.

We checked this out because it was on my list of places. Turns out it was restaurant week so we essentially got a 3 course meal for $40 per person. Great way to try a bunch of different things on the menu. All of which was fantastic.

The mushroom risotto from the restaurant week menu was not good at all. The mushroom thing was especially tough.

The Sovereign has been a neighborhood gem since day 1 and continues to deliver a delightful experience. Not just for its consistently excellent service, warm ambience, and outstanding Belgian fare; it's also impressive that while they could easily rely only on Best in DC microbrew selections (that staff is skilled and happy to help you select), their cocktail and wine lists shine also. I appreciated the Restaurant Week options this year in part for reminding me to save room for dessert! I can't wait to return and will continue to bring new people with me to share the magic of The Sovereign.

Food was good but not great. Staff was very friendly and attentive even on a very busy night. Would go back for ambiance.
