Went here for my birthday eve dinner. Great “comfort gourmet” Southern cuisine. Had the Mac n cheese for an appetizer- amazingly flavorful. Buttermilk chicken with collard greens with a side of potatoes puree for dinner and saves the sweet potato bread from the entree for my sweet tooth at the end. Since it was my birthday weekend, they even brought a small shot glass of chocolate mousse for me and a candle to make a wish. Wonderful service and food. Will definitely come back

The fried chicken is very good. I was hoping to substitute the collard greens for potatoes, but they wouldn’t allow substitutions so we just ordered the potatoes separate and they were delicious. The collard greens we’re lacking in flavor. The fried green tomatoes were pretty good but they only give you two small slices.,The cheese hushpuppy fritters were really good, as well as the sauces served with them. I wish our waiter would’ve kept my tea refilled. The cornbread is no southern cornbread! It’s more reminiscent of a soggy banana bread texture, a far cry from any southern cornbread. Since JCT Kitchen closed, we were hoping Southern Gentleman would satisfy us for delicious upscale southern food, but we were disappointed.

I took a friend to the Southern Gentleman to celebrate his birthday. Our waitress Shannon was amazing times 10. Our food and service was dynamic! I LOVE this restaurant!

The air conditioning was broke. And the ceiling fans were not working. The experience would have been better if these things were operating. Food was good but bigger portions would be nice considering the prices.

I booked the Fathers Day fixed menu as shown on OpenTable. Upon arrival, I was given the restaurant's regular menu instead. Strike 1. Most of the items overlapped, but the main one I wanted - the hushpuppies - had just run out of supply. Strike 2, 3, and 4. I also felt like the restaurant was stuffy inside (and I noticed almost none of the overhead fans were on on this muggy day in record heat) - Strike 5. However, what I did order was delicious. I would especially recommend the sweet potato cornbread. The service was also attentive and friendly after an initial bit of a wait to be acknowledged at the bar. I'll definitely go back and hope the hushpuppies haven't run out and the menu of the day as advertised is actually available.
