Located in downtown Richmond's historic Shockoe Slip, The Hard Shell Restaurant is known to locals as one of the best seafood restaurants in town. With a new fresh look; The Hard Shell features sleek booths, lots of light and a vibrant city feel. The Hard Shell has Richmond's widest variety of fresh and local seafood. Menu items include signatures such as filet and lobster, shrimp and scallops, lump crab cakes. Patio request honored when possible but tables are first come, first served. Private dining & reservations are available. Dress is casual.

Everything was amazing. Food superb, Sat at bar and Kristian the bartender was great, funny, & attentive. This was the very best Happy Hour ever.

our waiter. Malachi was very personable and attentive. Especially love the crab dip and I always enjoy the blackberry drink. My husband loved the pasta with all of the seafood. The portions were large and did include a lot of seafood, but I found my pasta too spicy and seafood too salty for my taste, even though we both had the same dish. crème brûlée and carrot cake were good choices for dessert. Especially love eating outside, but it was much too hot. Luckily, they put us in a back dining room as the main dining room was very loud. It’s one of my favorite places to come when we are in Richmond.

Great destination for a seafood focused menu, fun vibe and friendly service. Saw both date nights and families enjoying the atmosphere, food and service.

I was pleasantly surprised at how affordable this was! The fish and crab legs were a little overcooked, but they’re both tricky things to get perfectly right every time. We will definitely return! Also, the bathrooms were clean and the staff was friendly!

Great, attentive and friendly service. The food is hit or miss. My scallops were cooked about eight, but salty, same as the shrimp. My partner’s scallops were overcooked, and both scallops and shrimp way over salted.
