Welcome to The Dorset Arms, one of Sussex's best kept secrets..

The Dorset Arms Public House in Withyham is an 18th century alehouse situated in the outstandingly beautiful Sussex Weald. Part of the historic Buckhurst Estate, the pub is named after the Earls and Dukes of Dorset, one time heads of the Sackville family, and shares a heritage of family ownership now headed by their descendant, the present Earl De La Warr.

Showcasing the best of what Sussex has to offer, our Head Chef has fine-tuned the classics and combined them with modern British dishes to provide a diverse and exciting menu.

We have our Garden Room that seats 3 stunning private drinks/dining lodges themed around Apres Ski in our garden that are available for hire. They are the perfect venue for any celebration you are planning. Two of our 3 lodges seat 10 guests and the third can accommodate 24 seated and 30 standing guests.

Very much a destination pub for us but having read the reviews decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed, location was great,service was excellent, food was great, prices were as expected. Can recommend.

We stayed the night and had dinner. Oysters then flatiron chicken for me, asparagus then haddock and chips for Mrs T. The food was fantastic, a little pricey but really enjoyable and the service was excellent. A few drinks at the bar first, chatting to some friendly locals made for a really good stay. We will definitely return.

Very helpful in finding something that suited my medically imposed diet. I could have listened in to the entire conversation of the adjacent table but I read my book most of the time. Food quality good. Menu choice for those not with restrictions was wide. Clean, good ambience.

Food delicious. PraWn cocktail had so many prawns. Fantastic and the sea bass was delicious with a sauce that complimented it. Couldn't have been nicer. Atmosphere good

We went for an early Mother’s Day dinner and the whole outing was perfect. From the bunch of daffodils tied with a bow for mums, through the friendly but attentive service, to the delicious food. My 6 year old doesn’t eat chips and, unlike many other local eateries, they brought vegetables that he would eat rather than just that which was convenient for them to serve. We haven’t been to The Dorset Arms for a while but this was a great reminder that we shouldn’t leave it so long next time.
