The Colosseum Restaurant is an award-winning Italian restaurant offering elegant surroundings and exquisite Southern Italian cuisine. Opened in 1987 by Chef Annibale Todesca, the Colosseum has become an established favorite for diners in Salem, NH and the Merrimack Valley. Chef Annibale Todesca serves the same authentic Southern Italian cooking that he enjoyed growing up in Italy. Like many generations of Todescas, he ventures to the market every day to ensure that he cooks with only the freshest vegetables, seafood and highest quality meats. The food is outstanding. The best Italian food in NH outside of Italy. The portions are family size and easy to share. The service is top notch, very attentive and courteous. The restaurant is accessible for people with disabilities or those who use a wheelchair and the staff is very accommodating. Would definitely recommend!

The Colosseum Restaurant is amazing in every way. The servers and staff are so kind and engaging and are always there to reach out to. The food and desserts are absolutely delicious!!

My third visit and it was as good as the last two .The special Raghu and the fettuccine were excellent and even good as leftovers the next day.

Not the best Italian food we've had in the area, also not the worst. Great that they make their own homemade pasta and many dishes are homemade. Chicken Francese was very good and I ordered with homemade pasta. Solid "good" rating across all categories - decor is dated/old school ambiance, service was good despite being short staffed. Good martinis.

I miss the days when the service here was special and differentiated itself from the competition. I’ve been going to the Colosseum Restaurant for over 20 years. This visit was different. As usual, we were drawn to the dessert case upon arrival. The hostesses and host were standing around the front desk and greeted us when we approached them. It was 5pm for our service. There were people in the restaurant on the bar side at the time we arrived. It would have been nice if one of the hostesses or host walked up to us and greeted us and told us about the desserts. Water servers nails were dirty. Candle had a funky smell. Booth seat was comfortable. Utensils were wrapped in cloth napkins and water glasses were set upside down on the table upon arrival. Music was playing but difficult to hear over the voices in the bar. Carlos, our server, was pleasant but could improve his service. He greeted us, introduce himself and lit the candle after the water server. Drink had plenty of alcohol. Cold bread and butter. Salad was tasteless. Iceberg lettuce was all white, carrot served as long ribbons that had to be cut, 1/2 of a small tomato and 2 slices of unpeeled cucumber. No croutons. Balsamic dressing seemed watered down. Lacked tart flavor and no herbs. Linguine was cooked perfectly. Sauce was flavorful and plenty. Veal was cooked a bit more than I like but not chewy. No spoon delivered with linguine dish. Crumbs not removed from tablecloth after the meal. No more rolling dessert cart to choose from. Peanut butter cake was dry. Coconut lemon raspberry cake was tender. Server did not offer to put leftovers into containers for us. Miss this service. As you can tell, nothing special here, but could be with just a few no cost changes. We’ll see what the future brings.

Our experiences at Colosseum Restaurant have always been outstanding and this visit was as well. Conversations with the owner, wait staff were pleasant. Appetizers were great as were the main courses. We selected three desserts to share and wished we were able to eat more.
