This was a last minute decision and we where not disappointed , lamb starter was excellent but that was surpassed by the John Dorry sharer for mains, simple fish but excecuted to perfection , and the Provence Rose that was recommend was perfect. Nice welcome in a very relaxed atmosphere We will be back soon and hopefully have room for desserts ! Thanks x

We went there for dinner last night and were seated inside the pub which was rather dark. Deco is so so. Ordered sea bass from the Specials menu and whole monkfish tail from the standard menu. The sea bass was tasty and well presented. The monkfish tail was fresh and nicely done but the dish to me was spoiled by the roast chicken butter sauce or more correctly 'syrup'. It was sticky and tasteless. There was no flavour at all other than that of chives. To me this syrup did not go well and ruin the monkfish tail. Ordered half a pint of Butcombe Ale on the side but it turned out stale, like one that was left overnight in the glass at room temperature. I had better Butcombe before. The pint of Amstel was a lot better though. So the whole dining experience was not perfect in this 'Michelin' gastro pub. Will try other competitors next time.

I had heard great things about The Chequers and I really wanted to like it. I liked the ambience and the service was quite good and certainly timely. However, as the windows were open ( it was very hot) cigarette smoke was very noticeably coming into the restaurant from the outside seating area. Generally the food was delicious & good portions too but my beef was very fatty and stringy so I had to leave quite a lot of it. The waitress looked surprised and didn’t seem to know how to respond. Better training with customer issues needed, I think! I would return but not to eat roast beef!

Food was just average pub food, large portions, with unreasonably high prices. Staff were polite and quick to serve. Bathrooms were filthy. Wouldn’t visit again or recommend to anyone, I’m surprised the place is on the Michelin Guide.

Lovely food, lovely staff, and a great ambience. Definitely would recommend the roast beef.

Went for Sunday roast. Overall it was very tasty but I felt it was expensive for what it was. The roast beef, despite being flavoursome, was definitely on the tough side, so much so that it was difficult to cut, and the “roast” potatoes were either roasted in a vat of oil or fried post roasting as they had a suspiciously hard shell. The pudding were simple and delicious (crème brulé and pavlova). Like I said, it was nice and certainly not worth complaining about directly to the staff, but at £91 for 2 roasts, 2 puddings and 2 glasses of house wine with a 12.5% service charge it felt like it was in the pricey side.

An excellent meal and excellent service. We had high hopes, given the Michelin Bib Gourmand, but this exceeded expectations. Highly recommend!

Food was excellent. Service professional and attentive. This was our second visit to The Chequers. Our first time we were in the pub and didn’t appreciate there was a separate dining room upstairs. This time we were seated upstairs where the room is spartan with an open view of the kitchen. The atmosphere is so much different as was the temperature- the heat from the kitchen was too much. Once again the food was exceptional but I much preferred being seated in the pub area on the ground floor.

Sad to see our favourite local lose its spark! Food is nice and location lovely however an atmosphere with 12 screaming teenagers unbearable. We offered to wait a number of times and were met with attitude and zero customer care. Apology, smile or an offer to cancel our booking so we could have gone elsewhere would have gone a long way! Such a shame, previous management would have dealt with it beautifully!
