We attended a High Tea at the Dining Room at Butchart Gardens - can’t score higher for ambiance. I am a foodie, imply hard to impress at restaurants. I’ve had many High Tea’s before. To date, this has been my favourite. Skip the Empress, not even in the same league and this and for far less money. Of course, high teas are a trifecta of culinary genre presented in identical formula - scone/jam with clotted cream. savoury selections, dessert choices. Re Tea: enough interesting choices, the flavours are subtle yet compliment the food well. They offer creative, inviting, and engaging options for each course. To start: a lemon trifle with Chantelle cream. Decadent - very cleansing to the pallet & is a motivating starter. By far, the savoury choices are the most creative, well planned/executed, and enjoyable part. Everything is delicious. Can clotted cream & jam ever disappoint? The scone has interesting taste profiles but was a tad too dense - could have been lighter and fluffier in texture. By no means was it dry. The desserts - the cookie truffle (creatively presented in a wee bakers box) is outstanding. All selections are visually appealing, perfect in size. The cream cheese frosting on the carrot cake is spot on in taste/proportion - the sponge was too dense, taste profiles could have been higher and the cake moister. The other desserts - decadent. Would I go again? YES! The staff was fun, attentive, & engaging. Two words - must go.
