A really great gastropub. Top class food, good beer, a decent wine list. Great staff too. Perfect.

Living in Cumbria, my wife and I look forward to Broad Chare every time we visit the North East. We rate it highly, including on OpenTable. As usual, when entering the dining room we looked for a window seat. A 4 person table was set for 2; we asked if we could sit there. We were told (mumbling - so not word for word) by the floor manager, that it was a table for 4, and thus not available to us. It was not set for 4. 20 minutes later a couple arrived, and were placed there. They had NOT reserved the table. So they happily had a good table by coming 20 mins after us!! We can only think he did not want a gap in the run of occupied tables, but this has never been an issue before. We were disappointed not to get the table we would have liked to; but have understood if it had been reserved. We were annoyed, however, to be deliberately misled - which we were! NO 'yes' recommendation this time. We will give it another chance next time in Newcastle; due to previous good experience of the venue and the floor manager.

A bit pricey but the food was excellent! Restaurant was quite noisy and we couldn’t hear each other at times and I thought that the tables were quite close together. However, I will definitely be back as the food was so good.

Great lunch in a good atmosphere, servers were attentive and often checked drinks and asked if food was ok

This is the 3rd time I have eaten at Broad Chare and have never been disappointed good choice for old and young and good size portions

Always held the broad chare Sunday lunch in high regard but went this weekend and was really let down. For the money you pay, you don’t get a lot these days. The vegetable offer was so poor. And having to pay for mash. The gravy was weak and Yorkshire pudding over cooked. Overall really disappointing and unfortunately won’t be hurrying back.
