The Black Horse in the village of Fulmer is nestled between Gerrards Cross and Pinewood Studios. The 17th Century craftsman’s cottage has gradually been extended to form a charming country pub full of nooks and crannies. Under new ownership, The Black Horse has recently undergone extensive refurbishment both inside and out, creating one of the nicest pub environments in the area.

Food is our passion and we will never compromise on quality. We are proud of our seasonally changing menus, simple, yet exciting using the finest ingredients and locally sourced produce. Certain dishes have become specialities such as our sticky ribs and homemade 8oz burgers. Our beef has been aged for a minimum of 35 days and the roast beef served on Sundays is unrivalled. Crispy beer battered fish and specials such as sea bass, turbot and whole lobster, is caught in the morning and delivered fresh to us on the same day.

    Food was nice, just felt a ripped off when the bill came. We had an Aperol Spritz (which isn’t on the menu) which was £14.50. That’s seriously overpriced and has put us off. Just seems to be the one takeaway I’ve told friends about.

    Servers were great Disappointingly… No Prosecco No chunky fries Was our second visit, just found it a bit mediocre . Fried Cod was not as good as our first visit.

    Food was lovely but we had to ask for condiments, horse radish etc. When you are having roasts all these should be brought before the main course is served Service is under resourced. We we greeted well but then sat for at least 10 mins before a menu was given to us and we had to ask to order drinks. Then it was at least 20 mins before anyone came to take our food order?? Whilst the staff were polite and friendly. The intermittant service lets you down

    Don’t go if you are in a hurry . But If not you will have a great meal at a reasonable cost. I will keep coming back.

    The food here is always good, but once again that didn’t have nearly enough staff on so the service was very poor. It took over half an hour to get a drink!! They need extra staff on weekends, especially Sundays so don’t go unless you are prepared for a long wait.

    Good menu and efficient service.The interior of the dining area was well furnished and decorated, but not too fussy.

    Good food and ambience. Shame gluten free order was delayed due to not been put through so birthday girl has to wait for her food! It would’ve been nice to get recompense for this mistake.

    I’m not too sure why but nothing seemed to be as good as my previous visits and I thought very expensive. Prawn Linguine at £21.50 - it’s cheaper at the Ivy!!!! Coffee which wasn’t great was £4.50!!!! The staff were nice enough but seemed a little unsure about everything. They had obviously run out of ink in their printer as you could hardly read the menu!!!! Only on Rose wine on offer which was the cheap Pinot Grigio which is very acidy. Our bill for 2 meals, 2 coffees and a gin each came to £70 which I did not think was good for what we had. Atmosphere was quite dead….probably won’t go back any time soon which is a shame as it’s always been a favourite of mine. 😢

    We have previously been there and had a good experience but on this occasion we really didn’t have a good time; the main issue was service. We arrived with a booking; nobody to show us to a table which as fine but then waited 15 minutes and had to go and find our own menus. Ordered fairly quickly as we had our 16 month daughter with us; main issue was food took ages - I had to mention it twice to the staff that others who had arrived after us had already been served - only on the third occasion was something done and the order clearly hadn’t been put through. When food came it wasn’t as asked for and the our chicken roast was dry; nobody came to check on us or apologise and when we let the waitress know how bad things had been she said she would inform management to come as see us. 15 minutes later and nobody came so we left. I wrote to the restaurant that evening and that was 6 days ago and no response nor any call. Big shame the service and attention to customer service was so bad on this occasion.
