Arrived for the first time was greeted warmly and escorted to the bar area until our table was ready prompt service food excellent and the follow up to ensure our meal was to standard was a welcome addition as this often doesn't happen.

We have been to the pub in the past as we stay at Kirkby Fleetham Hall and dinner at the pub is one of our traditions. We have the dog with us and are always made welcome. Food is served promptly and never any fuss. Drinks excellent and the toilets are worthy of a visit just on their own. Have to say it is one of the best pubs I have ever visited and will certainly be back.

Second visit and just like last time when we had a Sunday roast, our meal was excellent. The pie was delicious and my husband said his steak was the best he’s had in a very long time. We’re looking forward to our next visit.

My main concern is the fact that there is no access for my partner who is in a wheelchair in this day and age I think that there should be I parked as closely than I could to the main front door and she managed with great difficulty into the building to be faced with two steps we managed to get into the restaurant and we both had the fillet steak that we both enjoyed At the time of leaving she had further problems getting through the restaurant as it was getting quite full I noticed that the service staff were very young and don’t really understand how difficult it is for someone with a disability I must mention when we got to the two door at the entrance a young man came and opened the doors and reminded us of the steps we really appreciated that. We have enjoyed eating at the restaurant for many years but due to my partners disability we won’t be going back which is a real shame

We have visited the black horse for a number of years now and our youngest son always like to go for his birthday There was a period a few years back that we feel the quality dropped a little but this last visit restored our faith in how good this place is The place, service and food was a delight

Dined there 2 night running first night food and service was excellent but for some reason the restaurant was fairly quiet - on our return the following night again the food and service was amazing the restaurant was busy which added to our enjoyment as there was more atmosphere in the room
