Welcome to Tempura Matsui –A Michelin One Star–
Tempura Matsui invites you to experience the fine art of cooking tempura. Within a serene setting, guests have a seat at our counter or tables and can view the delicate preparation of lightly frying fresh fish and vegetables.
We only serve Omakase Dinner Course for $280 per person at 2 specific times Tuesdays through Saturdays between 5:30PM and 8PM.
Also, we serve a Lunch Course for $160 per person at 12 noon only on Fridays and Saturdays.
Open irregularly on Sundays.
Tempura Matsui is designed to emulate a Japanese cottage with warm woods, slate floors. A five-seat bar allows guests to wait for their seats while enjoying a glass of wine, sake, cocktail, or beer.
You may make a reservation one month ahead and any cancellations must be made 24 hours prior to the reservation to avoid a $100 charge per person.

Matsui is always the best experience, even though it feels like going for the first time. Service is fantastic from the host to the servers. Chef Koichi is outstanding. And the food experience itself was tremendously joyful and beautiful. We especially loved the chawanmushi and the pasta/ikura.

Tempura Matsui in New York is the closest experience you'll have for genuine tempura meal outside Japan. Always good and tasteful prepared by real japanese masters of this craft !

The decor could use a refresh, but the service and food were excellent. With only a few seats at the tempura bar and a few booths, it’s very pricey but the food is high quality and you’ll definitely leave full. The meal is balanced by dishes like sashimi and egg custard (note: the foie gras custard has crab on top) and Hokkaido melon at the end. The ventilation is good.

The service was aggressive; way too much unnecessary instruction on how to eat stuff. At one point the waiter put something down on the table, then, using chopsticks, PICKED IT BACK UP, to show us how to dip into something. Lingered by the table way too much. Meal was insanely overpriced (and I say that with the context of having eaten at every Michelin restaurant in NYC), and took almost 3 hours when it could have easily been done in 90 minutes. Tempura Matsui Food: 28/50 Service: 8/20 (and that’s kind) Ambiance: 15/20 Value: 2/10 53/100
