Tapagria is a Spanish Tapas restaurant bringing authentic Iberian dishes to the heart of Commerce Valley in Markham. Set in an exposed brick building that combines classic Spanish tiles with industrial fixtures, natural wood and steel finishes, the restaurant offers a large dining area, stunning new private dining rooms and a bar that overlooks the open concept kitchen for an interactive experience.

Catch a glimpse of the Spanish culture when dining at Tapagria by enjoying traditional paella, savoring a variety of delectable tapas and conversing over craft sangrias. Seafood is a fundamental ingredient in Spanish cuisine, and Tapagria offers many dishes made with only the freshest fish, octopus, lobster and shrimp. Our server, Carlos and the manager, were incredibly friendly and attentive throughout our meal. The restaurant had a great atmosphere, and I appreciated the attention of the rest of the staff.

This place is a hidden gem tucked away in a regular plaza. Inside is spacious with a cozy, rustic look. Beef Empanadas and Mushroom Croquetas tasted good. The croquetas had a nice truffle flavour. Jamon Wrapped Dates were delicious. The salty ham and sweet dates made a tasty combo. Calamari Frito and Pan Con Tomate with Anchovies were decent. The anchovies were a bit small though. Paella de Tapagría was pretty tasty. It had lots of seafood and meat on top, and the rice was soaked in flavorful gravy. Churros were quite crispy and not greasy, though would have been nicer to pair with chocolate sauce than dulce de leche. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We especially liked our hostess, who was always smiling and knew a lot about the dishes. Delicious meal and the service was incredible! Our server was very accommodating, as we had a dairy allergy in our group. Appreciated her taking the time to check our selections for no dairy before serving. Other than that, everything tasty and had a great time.

Our group had several tapas. Our favorites were the Paprika-Garlic Seafood, Grilled Octopus legs, and Calamari Frito. The octopus was grilled to perfection. It was tender and had the perfect texture. The Calamari Frito was delicious and fried just right. The paprika-garlic seafood was bursting with flavour! We also had the Scallop Crudo which was super fresh but I must admit I felt it didn’t go well with the grapefruit base. The only tapas dish we didn’t enjoy was our token veggie dish - the Rapini Romesco. Rapini is tricky because if not cooked just right it tends to be very bitter which was the case for this one. The highlight of our meal were the paellas. We ordered the Tapagria Paella and the Paella Negra and both were incredible! I can honestly say both paellas were the best I’ve ever had, and I’ve been to Spain!

The food was actually quite delicious, especially the sea bass. However, all the dishes had very similar flavours and became boring.

The tapas menu was excellent. We started with a charcuterie board, followed by the paprika shrimp and seafood, jamon wrapped dates, and asparagus with Tarragon cream. The Sangria was perfect - not too strong but full of flavour. Our server, Debbie, was very attentive and helped us choose our tapas items. We had dinner at 6 p.m. and it was not very busy at that time. However, the restaurant fills up quickly and can get a little noisy once it is full. I would highly recommend a reservation if you choose to go to Tapagria. I am looking forward to going back to try the other tapas menu items and the paella.

This is a great option for some Spanish food in an area that is otherwise dominated by very typical restaurants. If you have a craving for paella or other Spanish foods I would definitely recommend it.
