Sokrates Greek Taverna on Winter Hey Lane in Horwich is a relaxed, friendly restaurant serving dishes from Greece, Cyprus and Eastern Mediterranean. The dining room has a light and easy-going ambience like a typical Greek Taverna. The focal point of the menu is the Greek Meze which is a selection of dishes served to the middle of the table for people to share over an hour or so. It's a great way to eat and experience a variety of flavours. The Meze can be tailored for vegetarians and for special diet restrictions such as gluten or dairy intolerance. On the A'la Carte menu one can find all the popular dishes like Mousaka, Stifado and delicious Souvlaki (skewers) and Lamb Koftas cooked on real charcoal. Home made desserts are very popular with Baklava and the Greek Yoghurt cheesecake. Sokrates Taverna also has an excellent selection of wines and beers from Greece and Cyprus.

An excellent meal. We go to Cyprus regularly and we're delighted to gave such a great quality Cypriot meal in the UK. Really great tasty meze. Lovely friendly service. Nice atmosphere. Our friends had never eaten Cypriot food before and loved it.

We took my sister and husband to Sokrates to share a Meze. From start to finish everything was excellent! Service, food, ambience all outstanding. Our guests had been to a couple of Green restaurants in Cheshire recently and rated Sokrates the best of the bunch.

Had a lovely meal with my family. The service was fantastic and the staff couldn’t do enough for us. Will definitely be visiting again.

Food was sensational, wasn’t keen from the outset due to the outside building but this is a must try!! Food was one of the best we have had in a long time! Service was fantastic!! It’s a must try!!
