Priding ourselves on our motto ‘Famous for fish’ Smiths Restaurants is a name that has become synonymous with fine dining and quality, attentive service. Our restaurants are located in Ongar Essex (just off the A414) and Wapping in central London (near Tower Bridge). Both restaurants boast an extensive menu of fresh fish that we offer to cook in a variety of ways to suit every palette. We also offer locally sourced meat dishes to accommodate those who prefer their food terra firma. To compliment the quality of our food we have worked closely with well renowned independent wine merchants to ensure we have a selection of wines that are the perfect accompaniment to every meal. The only problem you may have a Smith’s is being spoilt for choice.

Monkfish meant to be in light tempura was in greasy thick batter & sent back. Staff attentive, polite and very good. Mussels average in taste with the odd nice juicy one. The wine & cream sauce was lacking something. Lobster okay, scallops lovely & cooked perfectly. King prawns, big, chunky but lacking flavour. Turbot was cooked nicely but once again nothing special. All dishes lacking in flavour, chillis no heat and all swimming in butter. Overall a pleasant evening but the food not as exciting or flavourful for London prices. Drinks normal restaurant price and good selection of wines to choose from.

The service was excellent as soon as we walked in the door. We were shown to our table and our coats were taken to the cloakroom. The waiting staff were unobtrusively attentive. The food was superb and there was plenty to choose from. At no time did we feel rushed.

The chef was on top form last night. Each plate was begging you to have more. Great flavours and presentation. Service was always with a smile. Nothing was too hard. They really provided the class experience.

First time we have visited Smiths for their "set lunch" menu and highly recommend this as a lovely place to come with family, friends, partner or a business lunch! It was very busy, so advance booking is essential, but they have a great choice of Menu starters, mains & desserts and at reasonable rates. I have eaten at The Savoy Grill last week, and their set menu was very poor by comparison when it came to choices (and cost!) but I'd say the quality of the food here, was equal if not better (sorry Gordon Ramsey!). Will definitely return and was good to see they also have a set "Evening Menu" (excl. Friday nights) which is also worth exploring alongside the A la Carte.

From the moment you book the communication is excellent reminders and confirmation before you go. The service is brilliant staff are well trained polite friendly engaging the choice of food is dazzling you can have it how you like the quality of the food is outstanding portions are generous flavour is amazing. It’s dinning at another level first class all round.
