Great sharing dishes! Flavours are pretty good. I love seeing how my Asian cultures food works in fusion. The sesame pop is good but less sugar would elevate the black sesame. It has such a great nutty flavour that excess sugar takes away from its essence. I’d say the scallops missed the mark in flavour and price. I love scallops and yuzu but the yuzu was slightly bitter and the combination with the salty didn’t quite match. The salt overpowered the yuzu and hit wrongly from all angles. I’m happy to spend on quality food but that one in flavour and quantity was just insulting. I’m already planning to bring my family here but not for that dish.

First time at this restaurant. Perfect atmosphere, decor and music. Food was exceptional and service marched. Will definitely go back.

Great service, amazing food, enjoyed new items on the menu. Please bring back the salt + pepper calamari. Earl is the best !

First time at Sidedoor for dinner with family. Overall a great experience. Chris as a server was excellent. Food was flavourful. Great space but very noisy and hard to chat with others.

The food was phenomenal, drinks were good. Great value for the price. Ambiance was great. Only thing to note was that it was very cold in the restaurant but that’s expected with our weather fluctuating how it does. We will be returning as will others after seeing pictures posted with friends and family.

Based on other reviews, we reserved a few spots at Sidedoor for dinner on a late Sunday afternoon. For those of you thinking of doing the same, we were told by the waitress that they only serve the lunch menu until around 7 pm on Sundays when they close. The decor was tired (e.g., mirrors were smudged), the limes in our drinks were wilted and brown and the popcorn chicken tasted (weirdly?) of cheese. The young waitress was polite but clearly ‘over’ her job. After a day spent in downtown Ottawa dodging vulnerable addicts in the streets and being propositioned for sex, we were looking for good food in a decent setting and unfortunately found ourselves … here.

The food presentation and taste were overall good and creative, but the server felt like she didn't really want to be there, and when you're being served by someone who's not being friendly or at least half pleasant, it actually affects the overall experience.

It sucks that they close so early on Sundays. My boyfriend and I went for our 3 year anniversary and it really felt like they wanted us out of there pretty fast. We ordered the Braised Beef with a side of sticky rice in case it was too hot; it said it was supposed to be a “two-peppers” level of spice. Once we had a taste, it tasted mainly of cream; a little unfortunate considering we love spicy food. However, the beef was still incredibly tender. Maybe I was just expecting more.
