Le Rustico présente un pub de quartier par excellence, situé sur le bord de la vieille ville d'Alexandria. Le menu propose de copieux plats de saison américains, cuits au four à feu de bois et au grill, notamment des pizzas et des viandes de rôtisserie ainsi que d'autres repas rustiques à base des plus frais ingrédients locaux. L'amour du Rustico pour l'orge et le houblon ne fait aucun doute! Le point focal du bar est un comptoir en T inversé galvanisé avec 30 robinets rutilants à composition se terminant sur deux refroidisseurs massifs contenant plus de 400 différents types de bières, lagers, cidres et stouts.

We were late coming into town for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and they accommodated our late arrival. The food and drinks were great as well as the service!

This was our second time dining at this restaurant. The food was good and came out very quickly. We ordered the Brussel Sprouts as an appetizer, but they didn’t come out until at least 5 minutes after the entrees.

We come back for the mushroom pizza, the light filled dining area at lunch and the ease of parking.

Reservation made for a Friday night, but when we arrived, there was no table available. Sat at the bar. Wife's steak came out undercooked and rare. Soda was flat, chicken sandwich was cold and tasteless. Waiter was inattentive. Good pizza though.

Rustico Alexandria is normally a pleasant place to eat and enjoy craft beer. But on this particular occasion it was slammed with customers, perhaps due to the "Cajun" food special that evening. As a result, service was way below par. I had to flag down a server to get eating utensils, then another to get napkins. Same thing to get a beer. The "Cajun" food special -- one menu item --was OK but not great. (Having lived in New Orleans for several years, I had expectations that were perhaps too high.) The beers on offer were acutely disappointing --7 IPAs and a "coffee stout". Apparently that's all the brewery knows how to make. I am indifferent to IPA's -- a fad style that will hopefully fade away soon. So I had to order off the restaurant's regular beer menu, which is extensive and wonderful, and alone worth a visit. My overall takeaway from the evening is that the restaurant should train its staff better on "surge" procedures for busy times. And in general not let the tail (the featured brewery) wag the dog (the menu items).
