OOOOF. We have visited the one in Waikiki. That location BEYOND met our expectations for price point and reputation. HOWEVER, we were extremely underwhelmed with the Waikoloa location. we arrived 5 minutes early for our ANNIVERSARY reservation (which we noted online but was never was recognized by hostess or server) and the hostess seemed to have difficulty finding our name in their system. Eventually we were found, but still weren’t seated until 7:15, even though we booked at 7. No big deal. we were sat at a half booth half chair table, which ended up being very uncomfortable… but it took 16 minutes before our server greeted us, so we couldn’t get/weren’t offered a different table. Thankfully our amazing Server Assistant (I’m ashamed I didn’t ask his name since he was the ONLY helpful person most of the night) was there immediately with water and shortly after with delicious edamame to start. 15 minutes after that, our server came to greet us. She seemed to take a really long time for my sparkling wine and my husbands gingerale but was quick to rush us to order after not going over any features or specials without us asking. I ordered the short rib with no tomatoes and mine was covered in them, my husband asked for light sauce on his catch of the day, was SWIMMING in it, and it’s because the table beside us got our food…… then, even though we got our food, shortly after the mix up with the table beside us, they dropped our entrees and ran. We had no forks. We sat patiently for 10 minutes before my husband had to finally got up to get us utensils. then we realized our Mac and Cheese was TERRIBLE. But it took so long for her to come back and check on us that we just decided we didn’t want anything else. At a certain point, the Server Assistant brought me a to go box since our server clearly wasn’t coming back anytime soon, which meant I had to box my own food to go and at $70 an entree that’s crazy. Comped dessert was supposed to be a molten cake and it was ice cold.

we’ve been long time Roys fans and they continue to excel in food and service. always a pleasure to dine there.

The food and service were fine. It is more expensive than the food is worth, but I knew it would be. The seating and ambiance were not worth the price.

Most delicious meal of our trip. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a nice atmosphere.

I had a ribeye and it was one step up from a frozen Banquet meal. The meat was very tough and overcooked. My husband had a pork chop which he said was okay. The restaurant and the menu seemed very tired. Staff was friendly and helpful but obviously that doesn’t really help with the food. Had high hopes, but was definitely disappointed

The Szechuan pork ribs were undercooked. It was very chewy and didn’t fall off the bone like they used to when I visited three years ago. The miso butter dish wasn’t marinated that well. The marinade didn’t soak into the fish and was only on the very outside. The bokchoy was cooked perfectly.

We were promptly seated. The worst place we have ever been seated. It was extremely noisy, back chairs/couch uncomfortable and too far from the table. This bad start didn’t last long. The waitress was exceptional, other staff attended to us between the waitress service. The food, brilliant. The Lamb shank so well cooked it melted in the mouth leaving a wonderful taste. A truly worthy dinning experience

Venue is 35 yrs old and is in need of a remodel, as the interior design is reflective of decades ago and feels quite tired. Service was enthusiastic & friendly but uneven. That said the server that was responsible for providing water, clearing of dishes etc was absolutely top notch. The food which has always been reliable for its consistency in flavor profile & presentation, also has dropped a notch. This would be ok if the pricing was not set to the premium level that it currently resides. In summary, the food is good but commensurate with the pricing levels.
