Bayou des Familles, a lazy waterway home to many alligators, turtles, egrets and other wildlife, takes center stage as our restaurant’s design provides its diners with a natural picture show. It’s in this unique setting where friends and family unite to experience southern Louisiana charm and culture in its finest form. It’s an experience not to be soon forgotten.

The 15-mile drive from downtown New Orleans will take you through the Jean Lafitte National Park. You’ll arrive at Restaurant des Familles and park under moss-filled century-old oak trees. The restaurant’s Acadian-style architecture provides a glimpse of bayou life that once was.

Our menu features authentic representations of Cajun and Creole favorites such as Crawfish Etouffée, Seafood & Okra Gumbo, Seafood Platters and Turtle Soup. Our signature dish, Alligator Stuffed Mushrooms with Alligator Sauce Piquant, will tempt even the most timid diner.

Restaurant was out of Crab meat The gumbo tasted good but there was little to no seafood on it .. I had 2 shrimp on mine and my friend had 3 shrimp in hers My fish was not fried crispy like the menu read but did have a good taste My husbands turtle soup was pretty much just that .. no turtle meat The ambiance is nice Our server Madison was great !! This was second time I tried the gumbo and both times the same .. I won’t pay that price for gumbo with no seafood in it

Poor service. Cold food. Seafood so spicy could not eat. That night, 5 out of 6 people in our party got sick.

I took my parents for their 60th wedding anniversary which I indicated on the reservation and there was no mention but this had to be the worst service experience I may have ever had. The place wasn’t even that busy. The waitress was barely around. The appetizers and food took forever. It’s unfortunate the restaurant is really cool and the food is actually really good but most of our food was barely warm. The waitress did get a couple things taken off the bill which was nice but they need to get it together.

Great service and ambiance! Food was delicious, the fried shrimp and catfish were just lightly battered with nice flavor.
