It has been a while since my wife and I dined at Rats. We had friends visiting and we took them to the Grounds for Sculpture. First, the setting and ambience of the restaurant is near perfect. There is a symbiotic increase in comfort and beauty between the restaurant and the sculpture collection, Second, the lunch was great, from the Trio of Spreads for appetizer, to the Steamed Mussels, Turkey Croissant and Rotisserie Chicken for main courses. Service was friendly and efficient. We are looking forward to returning soon.

The best mussels we’ve ever eaten. The mussels were tender and the wine sauce was exquisite. The French dip was fabulous. The cocktails were unique and exciting; and the Ommegang Witte beer was smooth and refreshing. Our waiter was especially delightful and entertaining. So much fun!

I was excited to go to the restaurant because we planned to visit to the sculpture gardens before hand. It was amazing! I had recently visited the Frederick Meyer Gardens in Grand Rapids, and it was equally amazing The dinner was planned with our friends who were getting married! The ambience was superb and the duck, the halibut and the coq au vin were all spectacular! The prior cocktails and the spreads were also amazing. We enjoyed sitting outside to view the beautiful ambience.

My wife and I toured Grounds for sculpture and then had lunch at Rat’s. I had the chopped salad with chicken and she had chopped salad with shrimp. Both meals were plentiful and delicious. Our waiter was very attentive refilling our water and soda.

The only thing that was amazing is the outside setting. Service as mediocre. Kitchen severely backed up. Quality of food awful. Price for the value is crazy. Avoid this place! Go to the park and eat somewhere else.

We had a 5:00 reservation. We arrived a bit early and sat at the bar for a cocktail. The maitre'd said she would come get us. We ended up going to get her. Sat at 5:15. Ordered 2 appetizers soon after and dinner not long after that. The apps finally arrived separately at 6:15 and 6:25. Our waiter, Richard, was fantastic and kept coming to apologize for our wait. After asking, our dinner finally arrived at 7:05 (almost 2 hours after being seated). I ordered the scallops and hubby ordered the short ribs. When we finally received dinner, my dinner was cold and definitely not worth the $41 price tag (no, I'm not cheap!!!) Hubby's dinner was half the size piece of meat that others had received. With the dinner, the waiter brought us mashed potatoes on the house....also freezing cold. He was very kind and tried offering us dessert and coffee to go. We ended up packing up our dinner and leaving as we did have a 1 3/4 hour ride back home. Found out from Richard that they overbooked tables with a very small staff. They never said "no" to anyone that entered the restaurant wanting to sit. Was very frustrated at the lack of portion, time frame, and cost for basically nothing on my plate. Again, we're not cheap people!!

Our waitress Sarah was lovely and efficient. As it was Labor Day, it was quite crowded and unfortunately, many employees called out. Service at bar took 20 minutes but there was only one bartender. The establishment can’t be blamed for employees taking off and then being shorthanded. I found the food to be a bit disappointing. In the past, I have had their Caesar salad with a nice glass of white wine. When I read grilled broccoli Caesar salad I anticipated broccoli being on top of lettuce. The entire salad was grilled broccoli with not one piece of lettuce present. That was very disappointing. The service was very good, even with the waitress handling many tables. I don’t think that we would eat there the next time we visit the grounds.

food and ambience really good but the service was really slow. Our main dish came before our appetizers.
