Food was very overpriced for the amount you got and the taste. Could have made a steak at home that was better and not charred. Waiter wore a mask and was hard to hear and understand. Nice atmosphere and wine was delicious.

I brought my nephew and his girlfriend to Rare. I was in Madison for a meeting the next day. The prices are eye popping. $190 for the most expensive Kobe steak. A wet aged beef tenderloin goes for $63, then they charged $4 for a 2 oz portion if Bernaise sauce. A side of mashed potatoes goes for $8. I ordered the Foix Gras as an appetizer for $31. It was terrible. Still cold and from a sausage. Not an actual slice of goose liver. This dish is usually paired with fruit or a fruit sauce. There was none. It was the worst I have ever had. For my entree I chose the 14 oz dry aged New York Strip Steak at $41. It was tough, not easy cut through and slightly over cooked. Not butter knife tender, not even close. We chose Bananas Foster for desert. The server gave us the history of this dessert as she prepared it. It was bery good, served with vanilla ice cream. I got feeling that I was being constantly upsold. The final bill came in at over $500. I won’t be back. The quality if food was not prepared for that level of pricing. Next time I will book at Tornados which is another steak house nearby.

Thanksgiving meal did not meet food expectations overall. However best turkey we’ve ever had, service excellent and value medium.

Very good service. Food was a good effort, large servings but was lukewarm, not warm. This was a special menus for the evening, so their usual food prep processes were probably not as focused. We would try again, but probably on a night with their standard menu.

Rare is a very good restaurant in general. Lovely atmosphere , terrific service and overall a well balanced menu selection. Having said this, I was disappointed in the Thanksgiving entree that I ordered . This is the second year I are at Rare for Thanksgiving and unfortunately had the same experience. I can't say any of the items served were that tasty. I think next year I'll order steak. Our server was outstanding and made our dining experience very special. She remembered serving us our last visit.

We went for Thanksgiving dinner again this year, after having a positive experience last year. Service from Shelby was excellent! Food was quite good and the option to swap out the turkey for a filet was appreciated. However, we were disappointed to learn the the menu was changed slightly from what was provided to me when I made the reservation. Normally, not a big deal, but the stuffing was replaced with corn bread. What's Thanksgiving without stuffing! Dinner was good, but at over $90 a plate, not the best value. A "complimentary" glass of sparkling or rose upon arrival would have been a nice touch.
