Zen Japanese Restaurant is aiming for the preservation of the traditional culture of Japanese cuisine, which gives the best impression of the cuisine to the patron while being loved by them.

Canada is a multi-cultural country comprised of people with diverse backgrounds. Zen Japanese Restaurant is formed, in part, from this diversity and strives to become a place where patron could dine comfortably. We believe that the restaurant is also a form of entertainment. By providing great service, beautiful food presentation and delicious cuisine we believe patrons will have the best impression possible of Zen Japanese Restaurant and Japanese cuisine. Zen is still my #1 choice for high-end omakase! They have quality and reasonably priced omakase courses to be recognized by the Michelin guide. Service is always professional and courteous, from wait staff to master sushi chef! Congrats on your new achievement! Well deserved!

tldr - Amazing ingredients, poorly executed. I guess it's okay for its price point. I recently dined at a sushi omakase restaurant and had a mixed experience. The ingredients were truly amazing—each piece of fish was incredibly fresh and high-quality, showcasing the restaurant's commitment to excellence. The cooked dishes ranged from okay to great, adding a nice variety to the meal. Some stood out more than others, but overall, they complemented the sushi offerings well. However, I noticed that the way they prepared the sushi didn't quite meet the high standards set by the ingredients. The rice wasn't warm and felt rather standard, lacking that special touch that elevates good sushi to great. The craftsmanship in assembling the sushi seemed a bit off, which was disappointing given the quality of the fish. Despite this, the exceptional ingredients did make up for some of the shortcomings. If you're someone who values top-notch ingredients and can overlook some inconsistencies in preparation, this place is worth a visit. With a bit more attention to the sushi-making technique, it could truly shine.

As innumerable others have noted the high prices make it difficult to justify any kind of quality, for example 20 dollars for a handful of small slices of roasted duck breast alone with nothing added, no veg, etc.... The service was great, the decor a little bit oldish and unmodern, likely the appearance that was aimed for, very odd and inauspicious location in a long dark strip mall on Woodbine, as for the food we tried various different items incl. the fresh fish which was outstanding but a bit crazy priced, perhaps not unexpectedly, some cooked apps which were definitely hit and miss and hamachi collar which came oddly without any sauce, something I have never seen before, ever, despite ordering it in numerous other Japanese restos. We made sure with the kitchen this was not a mistake and it wasn't. Another disappointment was the 'mid' (as my kids would say) quality of the rice, which in a great sushi place should be a wow factor. So I'm definitely not eager to go back for an omakase, given the above.

overall just ok/good omakase, same as every other omakase restaurant. Nothing particularly stood out

The quality of food is amazing! That’s what made it so great in value! Service is good. Homemade dessert is another high point there. Highly recommended if really care about food quality.

Very expensive. Lovely place, but very expensive. Difficult to find, even with GPS. The signage for the restaurant is next to nothing.

I highly recommend this restaurant. The staff were very professional and very warm and friendly. We dined with our 11 month old baby and the staff were always looking out for us if we needed anything. The fish were very fresh and delicious. We will definitely come back very soon.
