I am so glad that José Andrés has opened this restaurant in Culver City. I love this kind of food and we found the preparation and the flavors to be exceptional. We were invited to try the wine before making a final choice. The babaganoush was exquisite, especially with the bread we were served. The scallops and black cod were perfectly prepared and tender. The lamb kabob with its pickled peppers and onions was special also. And those Brussel sprouts that everyone raves about are not to be missed! The waiters were knowledgeable and provided all kinds of detail. We were very satisfied with this amount of food. We would have loved to have tried the olive oil cake, but there was no room--next time! We will return.

The best part of our dining experience was the attentive service from the wait staff. The menu was very similar to what we had in DC at their restaurant. The braised lamb shoulder which is for 3-4 people was underwhelming in flavor on its own. It needed the accompanying tzatziki, garlic spread and Harissa. The spreads were the best part- the Hptiti and the hummus. Their Greek wines don’t have the same finish and body as their Western European neighbors. My wine was compared to a Nebbiolo by our waiter but didn’t deliver on the fruit notes nor balance. The ultimate question is would I come back? Hmm.

I enjoyed our evening at this restaurant. We arrived at 4:00PM so we had the patio to ourselves for awhile. Nicholas was our attentive server and everyone who helped him was a delight. We ordered a variety of small plates from the egglant to the fatoosh to the branzino (fried whole), lamb, french fries, dessert and lots of bread. We did not order alcoholic beverages but two people ordered Turkish coffee which they liked a lot. Delicious!

We loved the food except for a few items and went back after 1st time. Id go back for Adana Kebap, Baba ghanoush, Spanatkopita. Turkish coffee is perfect as it should be. Service is another story. We had to wait for over 30minites to be seated without apologies. Table service was better than 1st time however our waitress was missing softer edges. Wait staff were more gracious. Knowing place just opened we will look away and go back soon.

The dress code is casual. We wanted to eat indoors, but we ate outside on their patio (which I recommend as it is quieter than inside the restaurant). I cannot tell you what we had - as it was Greek to me (p[un intended). Excellent traditional Mediterranean food - except it was outstanding! We did not eat any meat dishes. The bread (pita bread) was puffed as I had it in Turkey. It was light-air-filled, and it was easy to overeat it. Three of the group had a glass of wine (although the waiter said it was bold - it was not more like a pino noire. They did charge for an extra drink, which was taken off the slip - Overall, it was a solid Greek experience.
