Located in San Diego’s vibrant downtown, Zama brings Latin American cuisine with an Asian infusion in a captivating space inspired by the Amazonian jungle. Zama will focus on Latin American cuisine with the addition of Peruvian and Mexican dishes like Carpaccio, Agua Chile and Tartar and a Japanese-inspired sushi bar created by Chef Tayuka Kudo (formerly of Nobu and Lumi) against the extravagant backdrop of the lush jungle-inspired space.

Service was slow and waiter was rude. It took over 20 minutes and 3 times of reminder to get a drink refill. Waiter would neglect us and only serve us when I asked him while he walked by. Would not go back again as he blamed staff shortage as an excuse.

Food was great, service was great. We had an early dinner but it’s a cute place to eat.

The worst dinner experience I’ve had and I’ve been to almost every country. The blonde waitress was more focused yapping with her friends than serving our table. When she wasn’t yapping she was serving us with an attitude I guess since our needs were taking away from her on the clock meeting with other people she wasn’t serving. The fish specifically the abi tuna tar tar tasted like it had been dead for weeks. The music was so loud I couldn’t hear myself think. The steak tasted like metal and the mash potato’s came from a pouch. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY HERE

Scallops were chewy sadly and the server said “well they are hard to cook” and I guess I just thought it was the restaurants job to be good at that! :)

Though busy Friday night they Still quickly sat us down. It was a trendy happening restaurant club vibe place, with loud music, but they were still very welcoming and accommodating to us two adults with 3 young kids. Food and drinks came out fast. We sat outside so the music didn’t overwhelm kids, but still could enjoy the beats and shows happening inside. Server promptly check on us. Food was on par for a trendy sushi place, cocktails creative with good buzz.
