I came here with my partner for my birthday dinner. I wanted to try something new so decided to come to Z Cucina as I’d heard good things about it. Nothing was necessarily bad but nothing was necessarily great, and for the price I was hoping for something great. I specifically chose a restaurant with calamari because it was truthfully what I was most excited about. It was incredibly over-salted (and I am someone who typically over-salts my food so it was extreme). At some point the neighboring table asked what we thought and they shared the same sentiment. The cocktail I ordered tasted oddly artificial so I wasn’t a fan. For our entrees, I had ordered the squid ink bucatini. My shrimp was definitely overcooked and chewy. The scallops & mussels were good however. As for the pasta itself I was disappointed. I had been searching for a squid ink pasta in Columbus after trying it a while ago in Chicago.. the hunt is still on. Where my appetizer was over-seasoned, the pasta was somehow under-seasoned and bland. Due to it being my birthday we were presented with chocolate ice cream which was a nice gesture,but on a personal note my partner and I both hate chocolate so we were just unlucky and felt bad about the food waste. I would suggest at least offering chocolate vs vanilla. Our service was also okay. Our server was kind but it seemed like we were wedged in someone else’s section so our interactions were limited which was a bit disheartening considering how doting the server who had the tables to our left and right was. Not necessarily our servers fault due to where we were placed in respect to her other tables. It also seemed odd that she never asked about dietary concerns considering that’s standard practice elsewhere but perhaps that’s just me being picky. We left my birthday dinner a bit regretful of our choice to dine here. Overall, everything was just fine, but there are better places to go. Will I come back? Probably not. Especially not for a special occasion.
