Yunnan By Potomac Noodle House strives to be an ambassador for the people and culture of Southwest China and add to the story of what it means to be Chinese-American through our lens on contemporary Yunnan cuisine. Not your typical Chinese food, the Soul Food of Yunnan is Mixian - a light and almost fluffy rice noodle - which is prepared with braised meats, rich broths and sweet, savory and spicy sauces (vegetarian options available). Other specialties include various small plates, handmade dumplings, bao buns, and satisfying desserts. Come experience the flavors of Yunnan through our unique menu, handcrafted cocktails, extensive beer, wine, & saké menu as well as a variety of non-alcoholic beverages like Pu'er tea and House Lemonade.

    Yunnan lists “gluten free rice bowls” prominently on their menu online and in the restaurant, with no disclaimer that only some of these bowls can be made gluten free. This in and of itself is unacceptable because people with gluten allergies make reservations thinking that they have several options that they cannot actually choose from. That’s exactly why I made a reservation for my mom’s visit to NoVA - I thought it was a great place for her to find a variety of gluten free dishes. Not so. There are extremely limited options, and after our visit, I’m not even clear on what they are: The staff is clearly not trained on allergens. We asked for a rundown on everything that is gluten free. We were told by our server that the cucumbers, radishes, certain bbq dishes, and three of the noodle bowls are gluten free. After some discussion, we had a question about the menu, and another server came over to answer. We also sought confirmation that none of the other appetizers are gluten free, since it seemed surprising that the potato appetizer would have gluten. The second server said that the cucumbers are NOT gluten free but that the bok choy appetizer is gluten free. He also said only the first two rice noodle bowls are gluten free (these are among the bowls the first server said have gluten) and that none of the last bowls on the list are gluten free (ie, the bowls that the first server said are gluten free). We pointed out that this was information directly contrary to information provided by our first server and got no apology or explanation. For a restaurant of this caliber and price point, this is just unacceptable. The restaurant does not take allergens seriously and nobody with an allergy of any kind should risk dining here. We left, and although it was my mom’s gluten allergy that I was worried about, I will not be going back to support a business that doesn’t take allergies seriously.

    Fantastic, interesting food. I had the spiced tofu and it was absolutely delicious! We also enjoyed dumplings, noodle soup and pork belly bun. All unique and delicious. Our waiters were very helpful with our choices. Looking forward to getting back there again and sampling more from this varied menu.

    We loved it as always. Food was delicious, they always let us try new dishes and we fall for everything new we tried. Our favorite restaurant in old town for us. Looking forward to be back.

    This is by far one of the best restaurants in Alexandria. There are no misses on the menu. I love how many vegan options are available for my friends. And I order from Yunnan at least once a month.

    This is such a charming little spot and the food was OUTSTANDING! We loved the light woods and simple modern interior of the restaurant. Our party of three was so excited about so many things on the menu so we decided to go with a bento box lunch each so we could sample lots of things and boy were we glad we did that! The bento lunch comes with three appetizers, a choice between a bao or dumplings and a bowl of noodles (or noodle soup). Everything we had was beautiful in presentation, stunning in flavor and just the perfect amount of food. I am telling everyone I know about this place and can't wait to return.

    My children were in town for the weekend and my husband said, "Lets have a special dinner, wherever you want to go." I thought hard and honestly, Yunnan Noodles is truly my absolute favorite restaurant in all of Old Town. The food is just that good. We started with the bok choy in chili oil and the fabulous crab dumplings. Then we each had a type of bbq, served either with the fabulous bao buns or rice. We paired our meal with a lovely choice of Albarino. Such a fabulous meal, the best food in Old Town by far!

    Wonderful unique dishes. The dry noodle dish was phenomenal along with the barbecue mushrooms

    This was our 1st time at this restaurant. Food was delightful, server was very knowledgeable and helpful with menu selections, etc. Other staff attentive and accomodating, will definitely go back.
