Tacoma’s newest waterfront restaurant, Woven Seafood & Chophouse, is a Roy Yamaguchi concept owned by The Puyallup Tribe of Indians. Woven celebrates a rich fusion of culinary traditions, honoring Yamaguchi’s Japanese heritage and pioneering Hawaii regional cuisine, along with the traditions of the Puyallup Tribe and the bounty of the Pacific Northwest.

The food was adequate but not especially flavorful. We also ordered the seafood sampler but had to bring the majority of the food home because when we asked for small seafood/shellfish forks to assist in extracting the oysters and crab meat, we were told the restaurant did not have any. We will try the restaurant again but left feeling very underwhelmed.

A bit noisy to talk over, but not bad. Food was excellent, and portion sizes perfect - I still left very full. Pricey, but great for a special date night, birthday, or anniversary. We got dessert on the house - I think because I'd let them know it was our anniversary when I made the online reservations. They had a little anniversary greeting sign on our table.

Brunch Review: The restaurant is beautiful. Staff is friendly. Food is a huge miss. We had appetizers (poke bowl, lumpia, crab roll) and they were all all reasonably good. Nothing I’m dying to order again but not bad at all. Then the entrees came. Two of our group had the short rib loco moco and had to send it back. It was greasy, chewy, flavorless, very odd texture to the gravy and nothing we’d ever eat. One had the breakfast sandwich which was “just okay” and the portobello press which had a “good flavor but sub par bread and was dry.” The bar menu has about 4 drinks and they aren’t willing to make anything else so that’s a huge missed opportunity for brunch as well. Management were very nice about the missed food and offered new entrees but after seeing what else came out, we opted not to order any more food. We had high hopes and found that this was the biggest disappointment of a dining experience in our recent recollection. I’m not sure how an award winning chef misses the mark by so much but it’s happened. I can’t recommend eating here despite the beautiful views and ambiance. I hope that it turns around and we can give it another chance because the idea is fantastic.

My son turned 40 the day of our reservation and knowing this was a newer restaurant, I chose to make a reservation at Woven. When we first entered the building, we were greeted with smiles and offered complimentary champagne, which is a first for me! I was truly impressed with the open fire pit at the front entrance! We were shown to our table with the requests I had when making the reservation and was greeted with a little sign wishing my son a happy birthday, which was a very personal touch! The host was very friendly and our server was just the sweetest thing! There were four of us and each of us chose an appetizer and I can say that no matter what you ordered, it was all delicious, plated beautifully, and just enough for all of us to try each dish. Our entrees were spot on in portions, seasoned well and almost too beautiful to eat! Needless to say, dessert was in order and we all shared our choices. There is no one dish that I can say is better than the others! Each dish, from starters to desserts, was explained in detail of what was in each dish and it's preparation. My son enjoyed his special day with his family at this restaurant. Our server was very attentive, filling our water glasses without any of us requesting a refill, which doesn't happen very often when it's the dinner hour. We will be returning again so we can be pampered again! Yamaguchi-san, congratulations on your newest restaurant here in the Pacific Northwest! We look forward to returning!

Really amazing dishes. Vibrant colors and flavors. Zachary was our server and had a nice added flair for being polite and entertaining without overdoing it. He made great recommendations for our party. Big wins. Hamachi crudo. Fish was impeccable quality, firm and light. And the flavors were so unique and exciting. Black cod!!! If I could, I would have ordered another one but I was getting stuffed. Apple cobbler. Usually I’m not a big fan but this one was exceptional. Apples were perfectly baked, not raw and also not mushy. And the price was very reasonable for the overall experience. I can see why this place has become so popular so quickly and is a great new addition to our waterfront in Tacoma!

The decor was pretty, but the tables and the lighting were almost cafeteria like. The lighting was way too bright. The surfaces were hard and loud. So the noise level was very echoey. If they could soften it up with soft finishes and dimmer lighting it would be much better. It’s begging to be more intimate and they’re missing the mark there. The food was good, but needed some salt and pepper. Or server Kevin did a great job. Sadly unless they can change the feel of the environment I don’t think I would be going back.

I expected more. The food was just OK. The presentation was very good, however my salmon didn't have much taste, the same for my wife's roll. Our server was excellent, very attentive and pleasant. I don't understand their method of ordering all courses at one time, its cumbersome. At the end of the meal, we all wanted to share one dessert item. It was 30 mins wait. Great atmosphere, great company, however food was just ok.

2nd time here and still underwhelmed. Small portions. Bland food. Several dishes use the same exact seafood filling ; however we couldn’t taste any seafood. There is very little reason to come here with better options nearby. Wanted to like Woven but it really underwhelms in all aspects.
