Only 4 stars because we weren’t able to actually eat in the restaurant because there were a ton of people whom seemed inebriated causing all sorts of ruckus making it close to impossible to have a conversation with my lovely fiancé. It’s NOT the restaurants fault however so it’s 4 stars. The meal itself was fantastic but we got it to go and took it to our room.

Great experience. Bartender Jackson and server Marla were wonderful, as were the others whose names we didn’t get. The five of us all enjoyed our food and drinks (outstanding Manhattan!) and even the background music was perfect (diverse selection and not too loud). We also appreciated the complementary dessert for our birthday celebrant.

The Wooden Nickel is iconic in Crested Butte and worth a visit. The food is decent - the burgers and trout stand out as really good, and the ambiance and service are well worth it. The homemade pies for dessert are OUTSTANDING!

Our meal was very good. Caesar salad, steak sandwich and grilled flatiron. But even better than the food was our server, Samantha. There were a couple of minor things the kitchen missed, but she caught it and it was corrected immediately. Love the new menu!

The menu had changed from when we were last there. We had been coming to The Nickel for many years and always enjoyed a great steak. The new menu only had one steak option. It is more of a lunch menu now. Apparently, they offer more on the weekends. Our steak was cooked as requested but there was a tendon running through that couldn't be cut. We brought friends who were visiting because it had been one of our favorites over the years and we were so disappointed. Our server was very nice but I could tell that our surprise by the menu change was one she has seen many times. I have heard that whomever bought the Wooden Nickel also bought Prime next door. Prime has all the steaks available. Perhaps we will stop by for lunch one day.

We had a history of eating at Wooden Nickel as a great steakhouse, so we were surprised by the menu changes that moved away from that experience. Service was fine and food adequate, but we will be looking for a steakhouse alternative the next time we are in Crested Butte.

We had a wonderful dinner at the Wooden Nickel. The rainbow trout was exceptional. Waitress was very pleasant, but a little forgetful that night. Table was wobbly until we asked for help and noise level challenged our table conversation. Overall, a good choice ... but not the quiet dinner for two we thought it might be.

I had the best elk tenderloin I have ever tasted -- cooked rarer than I ordered -- thank goodness. Melt in your mouth tender and delicious! My wife ordered the trout. It also, was perfectly prepared. It was buttery and very tasty. A family with about 6 kids (4 under 7), so things were a little noisy -- but not enough to spool a memorable evening. Their G N T, with star anise is remarkable. We highly recommend the Wooden Nickel.
