The grand residence at the base of Mattituck Inlet christened Windamere in 1890, opened its doors to summer guests at the dawn of the twentieth century as the North Fork became a sought-after destination for city dwellers. Visitors were in for a treat at the lofty rate of $7 per week. The property boasted a dance hall with a piano, a tennis court, a bowling alley, and a fine dock built for excursions. The lush and bountiful grounds were graced by a gentle wind flowing down the creek, and magnificent sunsets were presented nightly over the inlet. Windamere was known for delightful entertainment for guests and neighboring yacht clubs, most notably a 500-person singing society arriving by train for a midsummer performance on the great lawn.

Katrina was our server and she was friendly, fun, and very attentive! She recommended the lavender elderberry gin martini and it was perfection!!

I love the atmosphere there the band was great. Our waitress was very sweet. My problem is the service. We weren't even half way done with our appetizers and they started bringing out our burgers I explained to the busboy we are still eating our apps. He apologized went in an proceeded to bring out the rest of the burgers. I was not done with my salad (which i was enjoying) when i told him to take it away so my hamburger wouldn't get cold ( my friends was already cold being one of the first burgers out). I spoke with the manager and i will say he did the right thing and comped the appetizers. But i found this unexceptionable and off putting. They need to do better

Great place , lovely views and property, the food was really good, service was excellent, a little pricey but overall a great experience

Overall, the atmosphere is extremely nice! The service is subpar and the staff are not knowledgeable and seem unwelcoming. The JUMBO CHICKEN MILANESE is a pre-pared, over fried chicken cutlet. Brusetta and balsamic glaze made it flavorful, however, I guess the chef decided to heat the chicken as it was on top of the arugula, which made the greens extremely soggy, and they were terribly oversalted. Not edible at all as stated by the manager!!!! The manager had the chef make 3 new for plates for our table, which were ok, but again the chicken cutlet was over fried with burnt edges. Manager was kind to “comp” us dessert, but that was a strange encounter. The waitress was clueless about options of the only 3-desserts they offer (Ice cream Sundae, Peanut Butter Tower and Cheesecake). Told us they had chocolate, strawberry and vanilla ice cream. Asked for just chocolate ice cream, and waitress was confused if the chef could actually offer that. OMG! Then comes back to our table and says, they only have vanilla tonite and asked us if wanted we wanted a peanut butter tower, since there’s only 3 left. REALLY, it’s Saturday night and you only have 3 PB Towers left and only vanilla ice cream of the only 3 desserts you offer?? Our guest asked for decaf coffee which took forever to get, and was so bitter she couldn’t drink it. We MAY try this place again in the future,however, something is not working right at the moment. Please get a new chef, train the staff and expand the menu and get flavorful. This is too nice a spot not to have food that lives up to the location.

I was very pleased with the drink menu as well as the food. The view is spectacular. Our server was extremely efficient and attentive to our large party. Couldn't ask for a better dinner experience.

The staff wasn’t very friendly or knowledgeable. The menu was different than the menu on the website which was disappointing. The salads were good but overpriced for what we were served. The outdoor seating was very nice as was the music. We most likely will not return.

Fantastic setting. Used to eat here quite frequently. Clearly there has been a change in ownership or the chef. Food was bland and tasteless. Sirloin Steak that came with the eggs was flavorless. Salmon that was asked to be prepared without breadcrumbs was also bland and flavorless. Menu has become extremely limited. By comparisons we would come to Windamere for the Lobster Cobb Salad or the Lobster Eggs Benedict. Both were bountiful in flavor and presentation. We love Strong's Marina and by the way, the service by our waiter was very good. Please get a new chef, expand the menu and get flavorful. This is too nice a spot not to have food that lives up to the location.

Terrible service. I am local, over the years have dinned at this location many times. No one came to wait on us. Had to request someone take our order. No utensils on the table. Served dinner after long wait and still no utensils to eat with. Really? Beautiful location. Food is not great but ok. Outdoor dining lovely but too buggy. Restaurant needs to address this along with service issues.

On a warm night, with a breeze off the water, the setting was perfect. The food was delicious, but I was disappointed they did not have two dishes I was looking forward to: raw oysters and cheesecake. However, the oysters Rock and clams casino were very good, and the waitress, knowing we planned to share, kindly added a sixth clam to the serving of five so we did not have to fight over the odd clam.
