William’s is a multi-award-winning seafood restaurant, fishmonger, delicatessen and caterer in the heart of Nailsworth, Gloucestershire.

A veritable Cotswolds institution for over forty-five years, William’s has recently benefitted from a full-scale refurbishment of both the restaurant and shop area in January 2020.

Alongside a 64-cover new restaurant sits a new fish counter displaying an outstanding range of fresh seafood, delivered daily from Scotland and the South West coastline. The adjacent delicatessen offers a large selection of chef-prepared meals, cheeses, charcuterie and terrines as well as fresh fruit and vegetables.

We are proud to have been voted one of Matthew Fort’s ‘Five Favourite Places to Shop’ and one of Rick Stein’s ‘Food Heroes’.

Always excellent. Thai crab cake and halibut main were particularly good. Also, side portion of chips with homemade mayo - superb!

Excellent place for fish and shell food. Relaxed, comfortable and unfussy environment. Service very friendly but slightly too pushy. We had Thai Crab Cakes which were delicious, Tuna and lobster. Everything was well prepared and presented. The wine selection was varied if not extensive. We had Williams Reserve Sauvignon blanc which was very good with the fish and a reasonable price. The only slight disappointment was a Mojito cocktail which was a bit too sweet and overwhelmed with mint.

Welcome upon arrival by Andrea was very friendly. Slight wait for our table but we were offered drinks (which didn't appear on the bill). The food was exceptional - obviously predominantly fish which was fresh and delicious. One of our party was coeliac and the staff ensured there was no cross contamination. The ambience was relaxed but a bit noisy in the room. One of our party had the monkfish and prawn curry and although really enjoyed it, was a bit frustrated at having the shell the prawns that were coated in the curry sauce - he felt they could have been served out of the shell to avoid having to mess around on his plate in amongst the sauce. However, this was the only minor issue and didn't detract from a super meal in great atmosphere with friendly and attentive service.

A favourite place to go for a treat however sadly on this occasion very disappointing. My crab linguine was alright except it contained several quite large pieces of cartilage and a piece of bone. I pointed out the problem to a waitress who came back and said the chef had thoroughly checked the crab meat! My wife's sea bass was excellent. I treated myself to a dessert to make up for my disappointment - lemon sponge with rhubarb compote and clotted cream - unfortunately the very dense lemon cake came with raspberry could and 2 strawberry halves, no sign of rhubarb or clotted cream. I drew the attention of a second waitress to this but she never returned! On paying the bill I complained to another member of staff, who was very apologetic. However my special lunch was far from the experience I expected and after years of visiting Williams, I hope this will not be the most I can expect in the future.

Three course meal for each of us. Naturally we had a taste of each other’s! Every course was delicious. Very tasty. The spicy crab soup, the gravadlax were both excellent starters. The Thai butter sauce with my monkfish was a joy. The chocolate tart an indulgent dessert. And how brilliant to support a good local vineyard on the wine menu. Our only, very minor, criticism, was that we were not allowed much of a pause between one course and the next. Other than that, all staff were very friendly and helpful. And clearly an excellent team in the kitchen!

I drove 90 miles for the best fish and chips I've ever had. Everything about the meal was first-rate. It's my second visit and I can't recommend highly enough. Quality of ingredients, cooking, presentation and service - faultless! Will I be back? You bet!
