The White Lion Hankelow, a beautiful Cheshire country pub filled with generous stocks of Cheshire craft ales, a tip top wine menu and a cocktail list featuring classics and seasonally inspired creations.

When it comes to food we only use the best local and seasonal produce, our menu showcases our
chef’s passion for refined and elegant pub classics mixed with contemporary flavours and techniques.

Really lovely country pub with great food and very reasonably priced drinks. Just a shame it was so quiet on a Saturday afternoon.

Sunday lunch was basically stone cold, meats were very poor quality - lamb inedible. Terrible veg selection - only green beans and a small pot of red cabbage. Starters were fairly nice. Extremely slow service - had to go to the bar to order multiple times. They took our main courses off the bill which was the right thing to do in my opinion and was appreciated.

Thank you for your feedback and firstly huge apologies that you did not enjoy your visit with us. This is certainly not our usual standard as you will see from most of our reviews. We were sadly down a number of staff (including a chef) on, what turned out to be the busiest Sunday of the year for us! This dos not excuse your experience but in some way may explain it. I am pleased we did not charge you for your main meals and thank you for recognising this in your review. I love coming to The White Lion, being our local pub. The pub decor is lovely, food and service good too, it’s just a shame that when we do come, it’s quite quiet and I don’t know why.

Dear Stella, Thank you for your review and the lovely feedback. Unfortunately we are still relatively new as the refurbished White Lion (2 years old) and so as you say just not enough people seem to have discovered us yet. We are also not a group or chain as some of our competitors are so again harder to be found. Thankfully we are getting busier year by year but reviews like you have left help us so much in getting word out, so thank you once again. Interestingly our Sundays seem to fill almost every week and had you come long on the following day from your visit we had a fantastic 200 diners with us! We will continue to try and spread the word. Food was awful, start to finish. Overpriced for quality and quantity. Gambas pil pil ~ served without bread and only 4 prawns. Did mention to server who apologised. Scott egg ~ poor, no different than shop bought. Beef burger ~ burger wasn’t too bad however the bun was burnt and rock hard so couldn’t eat top half. Crispy beef salad ~ mostly inedible, ginger overload, beef tasted old and wasn’t crispy. Didn’t stay for dessert, As disappointed.

Very tasty meal, excellent service- feel that the portion sizes for the money could have been a little larger. We still really enjoyed it and will definitely return again.

I thoroughly enjoyed the chicken with blue cheese and bacon in a pink peppercorn sauce THE LAST TIME WE Visited (3 half week ago) so much so, that I ordered it again. It just wasn't as nice as last time. I think the chef forgot to add the cheese, and the peppercorn sauce was far too strong. Overall we'd rate our meal 7 out of 10, whereas last time it was a solid 10. My husband had the pie, which was excellent.
