Old World charm may be found in downtown Renton, Washington at the Whistle Stop Ale House. For over one hundred years people have come to this neighborhood next to the railroad tracks to enjoy a pint among friends. Adding to the rustic charm is the cherry wood back bar which traveled to the Alaskan Gold Rush before finding a home in Renton.

A great place for lunch with friends. Very cheerful and nice to have a menu that addresses everyone’s dining preferences like gluten free. Vegan, etc. Also great to have mid day breakfast. The weakest link was their fries. They were standard frozen fries, not homemade. Service was friendly and very efficient. Definitely one of the better restaurants in Renton and very reasonably priced.

My wife ordered Tempura shrimp with sweet potato fries. She got heavily battered shrimp with yam fries. She ended up removing the heavy batter to eat just the shrimp. The first bite of fries she just spit out. My rueben has little meat and tons of kraut. My French fries were good.

I have always enjoyed the Whistle Stop. Good food, good service. It is very family oriented. On the other hand, there is nothing wrong with this place at all. Just a fun place to eat.

My husband had the jambalaya and found it to be pretty oily. My fish and chips and our son’s sliders were really good.
