Water Lane is a restaurant based within a working market garden in the High Weald of Kent. Guided by the seasons, our menu reflects its sense of place in the English countryside where we grow our own vegetables and use local suppliers. Our ever changing menu is simple but prepared with imagination and care by our Head Chef Jed Wrobel and his team.
The Good Food Guide 2023 describes us as 'A contender for one of the most charming eateries in Kent, it's pretty much impossible to resist the lure of this rural restaurant tucked away in a delightful walled garden...'
We are open Wednesday to Sunday 10am - 4.30pm and take bookings for breakfast (until 11.45am) and lunch (until 3pm). Our daytime restaurant is currently located on our outside terrace under a tented awning, overlooking the garden. Well behaved dogs are welcome on a leash.
From 2nd August we will be open on Friday and Saturday evenings from 5.30pm when we will serve dinner in our Carnation House glasshouse.

Everything about Water Lane is fantastic. The setting in the garden is beautiful and the joy of seeing the vegetable you're eating growing next to your table is a treat. The food is out of this world - everything from the nibbles right through to pudding is presented to the highest standard and it all absolutely delicious. It's become a firm favourite since moving to the area and will be frequented often. I highly recommend!

Food was nice when it arrived but we had to wait 25 mins for first drink and then was told the kitchen had asked for order not to be put in yet (this was at 1.40/1.45 and table was 1.15.) Order was eventually put in when we said we needed to be somewhere at 3. Not that many soft drinks options, but wine menu looks good.

A wonderful Sunday lunch at Water Lane. The food is fresh, delicious and tasty. Where possible it is all grown in front of your eyes in the wonderful walled garden. Helpings are a good size. Waitress so helpful and friendly. Would not hesitate to recommend. Prices are a little high but the food is so good it is worth the price. Wine is expensive but English wine seems to be so expensive!

Booked dinner on the back of having enjoyed really nice breakfasts here but left feeling very disappointed. We shared a burrata starter which was ok but the shared half a chicken, Maris potatoes greens and sides was very underwhelming and very overpriced at £58 for 2. I anticipated new potatoes but they were 3 standard Maris potatoes cut in half and sautéed greens of one type, all of which would have come from their garden. The Sutton Hoo chicken was bruised on the thigh , with a small amount of tender breast meat to eat overall. Not great presentation either . My partner would have liked the option of a local beer, rather than an ipa but only cider and wine available. All up £137 bill for a meal with such a huge mark up left it feeling unpalatable for us both. Such a shame as had high hopes.

Dine here for wholesome, inventive, delicious, mouth-watering food. You will not be disappointed, Beautiful location too, with attentive staff, a lovely shop and a chance to wander around the kitchen gardens ... idyllic. What's not to like 🥰

What a fantastic way to spend Sunday morning!! We had the most scrumptious, delicious brunch. All made with love, care and the best ingredients from the garden, being freshly picked in front of your eyes. This beautifully restored walled garden is a little piece of heaven, and we wish to return very soon.

We have visited Water Lane many times and have never been disappointed. The food is always excellent, with good wines and great service. Highly recommended

We discovered Water Lane quite by accident a few months ago and enjoyed breakfast so much we booked for Saturday lunch- and again had a really lovely experience. The idyllic setting, a menu that offers good choice and excellent food/wine and an efficient but very friendly and courteous service team. We had to modify our booking which was done with good grace. Food/drink was served at good pace- but we were not rushed. We hope to return many times- such an enjoyable experience.
