Water Lane is a restaurant based within a working market garden in the High Weald of Kent. Guided by the seasons, our menu reflects its sense of place in the English countryside where we grow our own vegetables and use local suppliers. Our ever changing menu is simple but prepared with imagination and care by our Head Chef Jed Wrobel and his team.
The Good Food Guide 2023 describes us as 'A contender for one of the most charming eateries in Kent, it's pretty much impossible to resist the lure of this rural restaurant tucked away in a delightful walled garden...'
We are open Wednesday to Sunday 10am - 4.30pm and take bookings for breakfast (until 11.45am) and lunch (until 3pm). Our daytime restaurant is currently located on our outside terrace under a tented awning, overlooking the garden. Well behaved dogs are welcome on a leash.
From 2nd August we will be open on Friday and Saturday evenings from 5.30pm when we will serve dinner in our Carnation House glasshouse.

Could not have been somewhere more beautiful on a sunny afternoon. All of the team were incredibly friendly, welcoming, kind, up for a chat and taking the time to help wherever questions were asked. We were not in any hurry to leave - so though one could call service a little slow and unpredictable - it was a nice change of pace from how rushed London restaurants can make you feel. Wonderful to see so many fresh vegetables on the menu, many healthy options that were out of the norm - and an interesting drinks list. Looking forward to coming back and exploring more of the menu and nice to see they are open for dinner as well from August. Must be so magical on a warm evening.

The food was amazing and so fresh. The ambience sitting in the garden was beautiful helped by the fantastic weather. Will definitely be recommending to family and friends

Absolutely beautiful setting, carefully considered and curated space for diners to enjoy the surrounding walled garden, both aesthetically and on the table. The food was delicious, seasonal, cooked in a wood fired oven, and the service was friendly, attentive but without being overbearing. The strawberry soft serve was simply divine! I just wish it was closer to home as I would come regularly to enjoy the food through the seasons. The only tiny point I would make is unless you have a child that is fairly adventurous food wise there is little on offer for them. I would recommend for slightly older children.

An absolute gem. We sat outside on a sunny Friday lunchtime and had the best time. Creative cooking using fresh ingredients that just tasted of summer. I'm vegetarian and was spoilt for choice. Can't wait to visit again.

Another very enjoyable trip to Water Lane. This visit for breakfast with my husband. I had the flatbread with oyster mushrooms which was substantial and delicious. My husband chose the Latka with salmon and again thoroughly enjoyed this. We shared a slice of lemon polenta cake. Exceptional! All ingredients are locally sourced, many grown on their own land, everything is flavourful and good quality. We walked around the beautiful nursery and shop and felt very relaxed and happy when we finally left. A real treat. We continue to highly recommend Water Lane

Such a beautiful afternoon spent at Waterlane! Food was incredible and service was so lovely - shoutout to Alison! We can’t wait to return. Such a special place!
