The Watchhouse offers an excellent casual dining experience using great quality fresh ingredients. Fish is always lovely and fresh and fish on offer varies day to day. There are also some lovely Hive products that you can purchase in the shop as a reminder. If you want something cooked a certain way or omitting a specific ingredient, chef will always do what they can to accommodate. Overall my favourite place in West Bay for dining in.

As always, the staff were friendly and helpful. The food was excellent, particularly the catch of the day.

Lovely service but the food wasn't particularly memorable. For the price I would say chip portion is a bit mean with the meals. Crab sandwich was dry and disappointing. Contacted watch house directly with feedback on this but no response back. Probably won't choose to eat here again.

Arriving at 7pm on what must have been a busy Bank Holiday Saturday we were warmly welcomed and shown to a lovely table with a fine view of the sunset. So far so good. But from then on things got a bit slow, with the olives we ordered to keep us going arriving about thirty seconds before our main course. Of the four of us only one was happy (who had ordered pizza). But the mussels were gritty; the king prawns overcooked and not particularly fresh, and my Cornish sole cooked OK but just lacklustre (again, after days of storms probably unsurprisingly not as fresh as fish on the Dorset coast should be). The second round of drinks we ordered never materialised and it took forever to be noticed so as to order desserts. We left having had a nice sit and chat in a great location but gently frustrated at the overall experience. It’s a shame because there are some very good staff there but whatever was going on on Saturday they weren’t able to do their best.

Last night was the first time we’ve been to The Watch House, our friends recommended you. WOW, best pizzas we’ve ever had. Great atmosphere, lovely happy staff. Sadly you had run out of cheesecake! The Hive Cider was lovely too. Please can you add a vegetarian burger to your menu?

Very nice restaurant with nice views of the beach. And it only took 15 minutes to get The freshly cooked pizza that was on point and wasn't slightly burnt like at some other establishment's. The downside of this restaurant is that the toilet is very small and also that when we wanted to get the bill it took them 20 mins of eye contact and asking for the bill when we just decided we would go up to the staff member serving us and asked her for the bill. Overall a nice restaurant but the wait time for the bill was appalling. Hopefully if we come back these types of problems will be sorted.

I'm a local resident & have been going to Hive Beach Café & The Watch House for years. The Watch House used to be a great little café -- a mini alternative to Hive Beach Café with the added benefit of the pizza oven. The menu used to be great, with more options for pizza toppings, a good wine list & vegan dessert options. Recent visits have been disappointing but I thought I'd give it another try, bringing friends from Australia. We were seated in the covered 'outdoor' area which has terrible acoustics & was incredibly noisy. So much so, the waiter couldn't hear us & we could barely hear him. I wanted to alter the toppings on my vegan pizza but the waiter said he'd have to check with the kitchen if that was possible! I've never been anywhere for pizza where this isn't possible! The waiter was very young & inexperienced & forgot to ask if we have any allergies. Fortunately, after he'd taken our order, one of my friends mentioned to me that she's allergic to shellfish. I told someone at the counter & he said we should have been asked about allergies (of course we should). It turned out she could not eat the fish she'd ordered as they could not guarantee no cross-contamination with shellfish. After she re-ordered, our food arrived but not the wine we had ordered, which would usually arrive first! My partner had also ordered chips to share as a starter (their chips are good), but these didn't arrive either & we were told they don't do starters! All the food arrives at the same time! There was much confusion over our wine order, which eventually arrived after some investigations with various staff. My vegan pizza was bland, even with the caramelised onion marmalade I ordered as an extra. I later asked if I could have some pesto oil, which was a welcome addition. One woman working there was friendly & on the ball. The young staff are either not well trained or should be told to leave as they're not able to do the job. It's sad that TWH has gone so far downhill.
