The Waggon & Horses, situated on Great North Road, dates back to the early 1700s when it was originally two cottages, but has held a licence since before 1799! Here we serve delicious, traditional pub food from our seasonal menus, and we also have a great Sunday menu - perfect for treating the family! After arriving we had to wait for the barman who looked up the booking and took us to our table just inside the restaurant area. I was seated almost in the aisle and with my back to the door so anyone coming in or going out brushed passed my shoulder. We waited about 10 minutes for our drinks order to be taken and another 10 minutes for it to arrive at the table. At this point the waitress took our order for starters and main course, and we waited a further 25 minutes for the starter to arrive. In the meantime another party of 10 people arrived and sat at the table the other side of the aisle and the noise level increased dramatically. When our starter arrived the disco/karaoke started up and the noise became uncomfortable and to be able to hear my fellow diners I had to get within a foot of them. The starter was basic but quite nice, as was the main course which followed some 30 minutes after the waitress took the starter plates away. The noise by this time had increased with not only the disco but with the pub customers screaming at the tops of their voices to the so called music. I recorded using a decibel metre on my phone a peak of 105db's which iaw the HSE guidelines is at a dangerous level and can and will damage the hearing. The main course was again nice but they missed one item off 2 dishes and had to be reminded of the omission. After a rushed desert we decided to leave as it was most unpleasant with the extreme noise and I paid the tariff and left. This ruined what was supposed to have been a civilised birthday celebration dinner and turned it into an unpleasant and quite disturbing experience, with what can only be described as football hooligan behaviour only feet behind me that I could not see. If anyone wants a quiet and civilised dinner on a Saturday evening. DO NOT GO THERE.

The waiter was fantastic, and the food was amazing. Very nice and service was very quick.

Amazing food in a very popular pub. The main bar got really busy with standing room only from early evening (we were there just before 6pm). The restaurant area isn't big but was enough and again was popular. The food was lovely, burgers weren't dry and were so tall, they are a challenge to eat! But I managed 😉 my partner had the mixed grill and it was really good with every element cooked properly. Portions are just right to leave room for desert but we definitely would have struggled to have 3 courses. The service was friendly polite and efficient giving us complete strangers a warm welcome. Hope to be in that neck of the woods again soon so will definitely be going again.

The service to the table was good but the portions were small for the price paid when compared to other local venues. The bar only has a choice of one cask ale the rest all being gassed pumps. We were seated in the restaurant area but the bar was very busy (two other local pubs have closed) and quite noisy.

Food and drinks good, service spasmodic, had to search for the waitress to take table order. Did not like salad served on a piece of paper.

We had a Sunday roast and the food was delicious and great value for money. Will definitely be going again
